Really need to join a gym or something.

My day wholely consists of:

Get up 2hrs before shift (they vary from 0445 - 1500 start),
Drive 1 1/2hrs,
Walk 500ft,
Sit down in a machine for 12hrs,
Walk 500ft,
Drive 1 1/2hrs,
Sit on sofa with a beer,
Go to bed,
Mix that with about 50smokes and 20 coffee's a day, snot good.

Missus on the other hand is a hardend 'tough mudder', this morning she did 4hrs in the gym, followed with a 3hr swim, this is on her day off. When at work she bikes nearly 10mile a dayhome caring. And if she gets finished early will go to gym or on a stupid long bike ride.
That lass is fit. I keep asking if a can try smash a council paving slab over her arse. She keeps saying 'No' for some reason.

Always been around 12st, in the past year i've put on nearly 3st, and seriously noticing the difference.
Weekend walk, i was absolutely dying going up hills, I used to sprint up.

If I join a Gym (seriously need too).
Where would you fit folk advise to start?

Maybe try changing a few things about your life first?

I’m sh*t at going to the gym, so I try walking up the stairs instead of using the lift.
Or walking to the local shops rather than driving to the supermarket.
I’ve cut down on my alcohol intake .
The one I find hardest to apply is reducing my food intake , but I am trying Crying or Very sad

I think they have all helped a little bit.

The trendy gyms (health clubs) will rape your wallet.

That’s my Penny Coin Penny Coin .

Start easy.
Plenty of brisk walking.
Push ups and sit ups at home.
Do them on a regular basis - set times for it. Stick to them.
Advance how much of it you do as you feel able. Intend to increase whenever you can.
See how you get on with that.
Because of my dodgy arm and shoulder, I started with standing 'push ups' against the wall. Quickly advanced from there.
Perhaps involve the missus; enlist her encouragement and get her to remind you when it's time to do it.

I have decided that 2022 will be the year I get into running. So I've got some decent running shoes, a GPS watch and am pounding the streets.
Had a minor setback last week with a bit of a sore tendon, but seem to have resolved it. Actually quite enjoying it now and am getting up to circa 30 miles a week, I've done a few runs over half-marathon distance too. Fitness is noticeably picking up too. It has been tricky to force myself out sometimes (running a programme that has me out 4 times a week, which with a full time long-hours job, kid to look after etc. can make for some challenges) but it does seem to be paying off.

I've entered a half marathon next month and the London marathon in October (for charity, The Outward Bound Trust, little link here if anyone fancies sponsoring me https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/london22).

The only steps are in the house, and going up 1 floor, to get sat down for the shift. Laughing

That's where you've got the space to adjust things.

It's a bit of a leap of faith but its usually not long till you start to enjoy it.
And you wonder why you didn't start doing this AGES ago Laughing

Seriously need too.

On first night out with the (now) wife. We went in to the pub I worked at.
She picked me up (16st) across her shoulders at the bar and started squatting me. Asking my mates, how many she should do.

Knew then it was love.

And yes she wears the trousers.

Judo. Is. Insane. Shocked

I like it though. Laughing

I have mananged to run every day this year so far, 42 days in a row so far. Last night I ran back from judo, to fit my run in, Confused yeah, won't do that again.

Attempting to run every day for a year. Though, on "rest" days I might run as little as 1mile.

Finally, finally, back into using my weight equipment at home again, olympic bar, squat rack, etc.

I'm liking kettlebells at the moment as they're way more fun than dumbbells. Wub

I would like to kill whoever came up with the idea of mountain climbers as I hate them nearly as much as I dislike elevated bench dips. Evil or Very Mad

I hate running but I might try and fit some in.. Last trained for a few weeks 5 years ago to take part in a 12k..

I did OK but really no enjoyment in it for me save the momentary sense of achievement after each outing. The routine seems to be:set-off feel knackered/shit/why am I doing this after 1/2 mile then muster enough spirit to carry on at a steady plod for the remainder say 3-4 miles.

I cycle a bit so fitness level is fair but i do feel I could do more..

I'm inclined to think if you're going to do it, you're going to do it, and it doesn't need you to go around telling everyone about it. Advice can be had by posting a specific thread.

Question

A... that's what THIS thread is about...

B... I'm more just commenting on the fact that this thread is health and fitness 2021, and it's now 2022.

Yes I am going to do health and fitness this year. I have had difficulties this year, but I'm coming out of that now. I am back to training, my back is OK and I've shaken off that awful flu thing. It just seems odd that we're still using the 2021 thread to talk about it.

4 pages in a whole year. Tells you all you need to know really.
Do you want to know how my fitness 'regime' is going? Probably not.
