Not sure if anything else out of whack, also broke the footpeg so was riding funny. At least I didn't break the odo like I always do on the 400, just the headlight. And shame, the exhaust was so shiny.

All in all l'm glad I ride cheap bikes and bought most of my gear on eBay
I thought the emergency stop was only in the first test now and at 32mphish?

To be fair, my first few years were a little crash prone - with youth comes a sense of invincibility - took me a good few goes to realise crashing hurts a lot and is best avoided.

Still, I never decided to practice emergency stops in the pissing rain - that's a bit too much even for me!

What is the bike?

Steel bars I might try and straighten depending on how bent they are and how easy they are to change.

Whats the point practicing emergency stops if your only going to slow down to 10mph? Confused 60mph is a lot faster than I'd want to be practicing emergency stops in the rain too. It would be a lot better to lay out the circuit with cones as it would be on the test and focus on getting the right speed coming out of the turn.

Think of it as doing a controlled stop rather than an emergency stop. You're not trying to find the limits of grip. You're just trying to stop in a controlled manner.

In my experience when the shit truly hits the fan you can't stop in time. You just brake hard and when you realise you can't stop you release the brakes and try to get around the problem.

True, that. I can think of a few places locally where I consider what I’ll do if the approaching car turns across my path, for example. It’s a glib assumption that I’ll have planned an escape route when the worst actually happens (I’m not convinced by the swerve aspect of the current test) but it’s a worthwhile matter to consider.

You don't always have to stop when slamming the anchors (eg car coming into the roundabout without looking etc).
