I'm still trying to work out how the feds cans say that all depositors will get their funds back while claiming at the same time that taxpayers won't be on the hook for it. The only way I can see that happening is if the US invades a small country and 'liberates some funds...

Which why it's so worrying when we have a government full of chancers so enamoured of the US way of doing things.

Willow oil: US government approves Alaska oil and gas drilling project.

That's the sort of thing I would have expected from the Republican side. He's going to cause a few riots whit this.

US President Joe Biden has approved a major oil and gas drilling project in Alaska that faced strong opposition from environmental activists.

When are you going to realise the Democrats are more right wing and more in the pockets of big business than your typical European right leaning polictical party and are in no way socialist.

It's just that the Republicans are even worse....

You could be forgiven for missing the news that all of the footage from the "January 6th Insurrection" - more than 40,000 hours apparently - have been given over to the team of Tucker Carlson at Fox News.

Personally I classify Mr. Carlson under the heading of entertainment rather than journalism due to his bombastic nature. I would therefore advise viewers of a sensitive disposition to skip the following video:

and move straight onto this less problematic CNN piece:

What to know about the Tucker Carlson January 6 footage

Why are they acting like this is new?

40k hours sounds like a lot until you consider that probably at least three cameras cover any particular view then they probably have dozens of cameras covering hours and hours of the event. So not much of a big deal.

Trying to find out why someone slipped over in a pub across a 16 cameras is hard enough. When did it happen? "Between 8 and 12pm" Okay... which camera? "Maybe one of the back ones" Rolling Eyes That's basically a half hour of your time finding and extracting the relevant scene. I'm led to believe there was a little more going on in Capitol Hill on the 6th Jan.

Ok
40000 ÷ 3= 13333 ÷ 100 cameras 100 hours
Of course this all stuff which happened in the daylight hours so eight hours so probably even more cameras. My maths is very general but it really doesn't look like much more than boring footage of walls has been withheld.

You also have to remember that Fox are in a massive defamation case over what they said about the ballot machines so they clearly aren't going to show anything that hurts their case.

You think the whole Lineker thing was partisan? You don't have a fucking clue.

Anyhoo, it's a lot. The interesting thing is I don't think Carlson has a team sufficient to trawl through it all, they're just looking at all the "bookmarked" stuff. Stuff someone thought was relevant but someone else higher up the food chain thought was best to withhold from the plebs (including defence lawyers for the so-called rioters.)

"5 policemen were murdered!" um... no footage of even one dying apparently. "They at least beat up loads of police!" cue scene of "rioters" thanking the police for their service. Now obviously we can't go around saying one action balances out another but we can at least say the initial picture painted was in fact quickly scrawled with crayons.

The point is, nobody would do that and then give all the footage to a news channel.

Why? It would fuck up the reputation of the prosecuters entirely so they just would do discovery properly.

Look at how many potential rape cases fell apart over providing all the evidence to the defendents in the UK.

Then again why would anyone bother impeaching a president several times knowing full well it'll go nowhere at the Senate level?

The Jan 6th show trial might have been run by a bunch of muppets but even they didn't see this footage. AFAIK they just got a highly curated selection of juicy bits from their aides - PFY interns fresh outta college. No sense from top to bottom.

The hearings were a Democrat dominated dog & pony show and the footage release is a Republican one. No-one's head will roll from either.

But all of it would have been given to their defence teams to use in their defence.

Defence solicitor to law enforcement officer 'You state the defendent did this in this corridor in the Capitol Building, are there any cameras in that area?'
LEO 'Yes there are cameras there. There's cameras all over the building'
DS 'Can we see the footage'
LEO 'No'
DS 'M'lud, I move for a mistrial'.

This is where your argument falls flat.

I don't think I'd go as far as that. I think President Harris comparing Jan 6th to Pearl Harbour was a bit OTT though.

Actually Jan 6th was worse. Pearl Harbour was a foreign enemy. Jan 6th was a civil war.

I never made an argument. I'm just repeating third-hand information like everyone else on the Internet Smile You seem to be under the misapprehension that the rioters were due a fair trial. It was made very clear from the start that wouldn't happen.

Whatever the prosecutors had to prove locations and times the defence would also get but you can't ask for what you don't know exists "for reasons of national security."

I would expect a few defence teams to try and go down the mistrial route but they'd have to go in front of a judge and make the case the new footage proves their client innocent but that's not going to work. 8hrs of some muppet milling about vs. the already submitted (but crucial) 1m of them stealing a pen. "24 months! take him down!" (The pattern has been to prosecute multiple small crimes and have the maximum sentence for each. All stacks up when run consecutively.)

I don't think the footage proves anyone there is innocent but it does prove the Democrats guilty of making a mountain out of a mole hill.
