In fairness, there's the same problem in Scotland as voters have in England. As in there's nobody woth voting for. They may well vote SNP because everyone else is an even bigger waste of space.

Even though they are a corrupt and useless shower of bastards, at least the SNP have a very definite policy on what they'd like to do.

Conservative is a total non starter in Scotland for generations because of the poll tax. Lib Dem seem to have vanished into the ether, Scottish labour have even less idea what they'd like to do than UK labour, or there's the Greens Laughing. SNP will probably win by default, although with no clear majority and not because anybody actually wants them.

Im thinking of launching my own party for the creation of the City State of Aberdeen and Shire. I'm half serious about it as the idea always goes down well.

They win because there's always a healthy number of poor people scattered around the country and nationalism is a cheap way of having some sense of self esteem.

Ya tyrannious English Bastirts...

We'll go to the polls and choose our destiny with dignity.

I'll vote tory again.

No chance one of those pricks will get a majority.
But it's a vote not wasted on freedumb.

Although Freedom from the Special Needs Party would be nice.

How without invoking an historical example or simple describing your own political preferences would you describe a candidate worth the vote?

Oh, so it's my job to fix the whole political system?

It's the same old problem of anybody who wants to be in charge should under no circumstances be allowed to be in charge.

So we soldier on trying to chose the least worst. Just as it's always been.

In fairness, historically anywhere you seem to get a universally popular political party/candidate, trouble isn't far behind. And I don't mean trouble in the form of mismanaging ferry contracts and embezzling camper vans.

No, I just genuinely wondered what kind of candidates would attract your vote.

Can't think I've ever come across one. I've always voted either for a specific manifesto commitment (eg Brexit), tactically to try to keep someone out (eg Corbyn) or just gone for whoever seems they will do the least harm.

By the time someone has worked their way up and machinated their way through the party system to be nominated as a candidate, I think they are a lost cause.

Over the past decade I have modificated my opinion on what constitutes qualities in a politician.

I consolidated my characteristics to the following:

If she has a good set of tits and a nice arse.

Maybe we should give a limited term absolute monarchy a try? Compare Chaz to the other offerings. He seems to genuinely want to do what's right for the country and people in general, has no other real personal agendas/dodgy business deals, isn't going to be out on the hunt for a peership and already has a heavily feathered nest.

I think my inclusion of "limited term" was pertinant here.

Elected dictator, 10 year term.

Winner of the vote gets the position, runner up gets a set of steak knives and everyone else gets a public execution.

Half way through the term the public vote on whether the dictator is doing a good job. >50% of the vote and you crack on, 25~50% there's a re-election (the current dictator can stand again) <25% the dictator is up for a public execution.

Oh, and compulsory voting.

The problem with the current crop of politicians is they have very little skin in the game, i.e. fuck up and nothing happens. Lose your seat, maybe write a book, go on a lecture tour, seat on a company board. The price of failure should be... well, more drastic than at present.

I think the historical behaviour of autocrats puts your terms on shaky ground. So let me reframe my question and ask you when King Chadders Ltd-term decides to drop the Ltd what are you going to do?

So for all you Monarchists a poem I asked ChatGPT to write.

Charles III Coronation

Hark! The bells of Westminster ring,
Proclaiming Charles as our new king.
With solemn pomp and regal grace,
He takes his rightful, honored place.

The crown is placed upon his head,
As all the land rejoices and is led,
By the monarch who will guide us well,
With wisdom, kindness, and an iron will.

Long live King Charles the third,
May he rule with justice and be heard,
May peace and prosperity abound,
Throughout our nation, all around.

We pledge our loyalty and support,
To the new monarch we all adore,
May his reign be long and great,
And may he lead us to a glorious fate.

So let us raise our voices high,
And sing our praises to the sky,
For the coronation of our king,
Who will lead us to a better thing.

Yeah well I've been asking AI to draw pictures.

Or.

The Mouldy Sandwich King.

In a land of legends and lore,
A tale of a king we must explore.
Not of noble birth or regal grace,
But of a mouldy sandwich, taking its place.

Once a cucumber, fresh and green,
Between two slices it was seen.
But time passed, and neglect took hold,
And soon the sandwich grew mould.

Yet fate had a plan for this discarded fare,
As it was crowned king, to everyone's despair.
The people scoffed, they laughed and jeered,
But the sandwich was unfazed, undeterred.

It ruled with a soft and squishy hand,
Commanding all from its mouldy land.
The subjects grumbled, they did protest,
But the king's reign, it was the best.

For the sandwich knew what it meant,
To be left behind and be content.
It taught the people, big and small,
To embrace their flaws and stand tall.

And so the mouldy sandwich reigned,
A king like no other, yet not insane.
For in its mould, it found its worth,
A lesson to all, to cherish the earth.
