It's a bit big for a canal.

I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop and find out what it is she's done that she knows is about to be found out about. I wouldn't be surprised if it's ferry related.

Massive financial fraud or touching up junior staff. Anything else could be laughed off.

There are some financial irregularities being investigated with Sturgeons husband (Chief Executive of the SNP) so maybe it was pre-emptive.

I still find it strange they both resigned out of the blue. Lets see if more leaders of err... that ilk start resigning Thinking

So basically Kate Forbes has lost a lot of support due to comments not supporting same sex marriage tied in with her religious beliefs.

What I don't get is that Humza Yousaf (the next leader) is all for it despite being a devout Muslim, they're not usually liberal about that stuff.

Religious beliefs shouldn't matter one way or the other with being the next SNP leader. You just need to be an arsehole.

Think it was more the children out of wedlock comment, at least that's what the media focused on.

England and Wales just tipped over 50% of births out of wedlock for the first time, and the most recent stat I can find for Scotland shows they were over 50% in 2016.

People are seemingly able to justify all kinds of contradictory beliefs, at least in this instance there's something to gain for the individual.

He's third generation so very likely doesn't share a lot of the more socially conservative beliefs we associate with the swarthier parts if the globe. I've encountered a good few Africans who detest the frankly Victorian social attitudes and medieval religiousness of their home countries and really appreciate the progressive liberal society we have. The SNP has deluded itself that the UK (ie Engerland) is a hotbed of neo-fascism with Scots as the Jews of the Kingdom. They then see themselves as duty bound to give the impression they embrace anything socially progressive to the absolute maximum. This is not for any genuine moral purpose or out of any genuine ethical concern but is instead just a mechanism to style Scotland as fundamentally distinct from the UK. This is why they run blindly into cobbling together bodged policies like the gender recognition laws. What the SNP leadership miss is the biggest supporters of independence are essentially a bunch of Alfie McGarnets who's interest in independence is for good old fashioned biggoted self congratulating flag waving reasons.

I don't think actual Islam gives much of a shit about what infidels do, Sharia law doesn't apply to non-muslims. It's the extremists that think everyone should be islamic and therefore do as islam does.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't eat pork but is happy to allow everyone else to and would be happy to pass legislation dealing with pig farming. My local Syrian muslim kebvab shop is quite happy to sell me a ham and mushroom pizza. If you asked him to legislate for force mosques to carry out same sex marriages, I think you'd be on a stickier wicket.

Much the same as any religious fundamentalist, look at the US for examples.

Or just has a brain and realises it won't help his political prospects.

Funny how I've lived around them my entire life and not seen those sentiments. Must be the difference between reality and shitlib fantasy Wink

I've lived the multi-cultural dream (probably) 100% longer than you. Again direct experience vs. liberal voyeurism.

These 'nationalist' parties exist to use nationalist support to push through the other stuff. So Scots will vote for the SNP for independence and they can do all the gender bills.

It's not like England has none of this stuff going on, it's just cos of the wide SNP support that they can go a bit stronger.

HUMZA Yousaf is facing questions over his record on gay marriage after it emerged he arranged a meeting that clashed with a key vote, ensuring he missed it.
