Wondering if anyone could help me. Recently started putting a new headlight on an Intruder VL125. The Headlight only has 3 wires (black, orange and blue), however my bike has 4. I have managed to connect the 3 wires of the head headlight (hi beam, low beam and positive) to the same wires on the bike as the old headlight. The headlight works as it turns on but the dip switch controls the hi and low beams, where as the hi and low switch only allows the headlight beam on full beam.

I now have 2 wires spare (black and brown) I assume the brown is earth, as i wired this up wrong and blew the fuse on my bike and if it touches metal it let's off a bit of smoke.

This is my first experience with bike electrics and was wondering if anyone had any idea of what I need to do.

Thanks.

Hi Lo and Positive? Is this bike positive earth?

Then I'd assume that the brown is not the earth.

Black is probably the earth.

Fourth wire could be sidelight?

According to that manual
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/804522/Suzuki-Vl125.html

Yellow is 12V for high beam
White is 12V for low beam
Black/White is ground

Brown is 12V for position light which is the side light

You really should get a multimeter and learn how to use it. Would save guessing as to what each wire does.

That is easier said than done. I'd say most experienced bikers can't use a multimeter properly or read a wiring diagram.

Same advice would still apply if you're dicking about with the wiring and blowing fuses though cos you can't tell what's +12V and what isn't. Miles ridden doesn't factor into it.

It's hardly rocket science.
