The last few pairs I've had are those Racer Short Sport 2 gloves - they used to be around £80 but have come down to where they should always have been considering they're not fully armoured knuckle and a bit mean on the kangaroo skin, palm-wise.

But, that aside, they seem to always fit me really well, and have great feel. Downside is I keep wearing them out (I found a small hole on the left index finger) - and being single skin, they're obvs not warm. That I can deal with (I just layer up more, and avoid really cold days) - but they only seem to be lasting me about 15k miles, which is about 18 months / two years.

What're some decent gloves with good feel - stuff that would probably be thought of as summer only. Something durable with decent protection for palms and backs. Budget up to a hundred quid. Cheers.

Kangaroo palms, scaphoid sliders, memory foam insert inside knuckle cap. LOADS of feel!!! Great gloves!!

Those Daytonas are basically street fights with more bits rivetted on.

The last summer glove I bought were an UK brand.
Holed the right forefinger within a few weeks.
Can't remember the make.
Apart from the hole they've lasted well.

Alpine Stars can be got money off. Last year's models of big brands are available (but sometimes only in weird sizes.)

*if* you can stretch the budget...

These are easily the best summer glove I've ever had. Feel is excellent, not worried about duraqbility if the worst happens. I paid nearer £200 for them.

could maybe stretch to that

would then have to bump rest of clobber up to that bracket though, cos gloves would be blowing boots and jacket away by a wide margin Laughing

also kind of breaking a vow never to buy AS stuff cos "branding" Wink

am getting pissed off w/ my preferred make of gloves keep getting holes in though so might have to try an ahem "market" "leading" brand

I'm not a fan at normal prices. I don't pay for a name, I don't mind paying for performance. Granted, a lot of my stuff is A*, but purely because a bike shop down the road had a silly sale and I got stuff insanely cheap as new range was coming out. The A* Corozal boots are top notch, very happy with those. Not overly fussed about the quality on the Andes 2 textiles though. OK for what I paid, would be unhappy at full retail. Decidedly meh on the Valpariso V2 gloves, Not great in the cold, not convinced on protection, but I had a credit for the shop about to expire (from returning RST stuff), and that was all they had in XXL, so they sit in the bag as spares.
I avoid RST at all costs, but I've had so may items fail on me, gloves, boots, jackets.

Dainese (carbon d1) and rukka (like the hero) are the best 2 short summer gloves that you can get for under 100 ponds imho. I wore each pair out. Currently using richa and alpinestar ones that are great but don't feel as substantial.

Yes, they are higher spec in every way, the Daytonas were a £100 pair of shorties when they were current in the Weise range.
They also were awarded Ride magazines best buy for short gloves. The Street fighters are nowhere near that price/spec.

Fantastic for the hot weather and not really that cold when it's not mega hot.

They're not waterproof, but they do a drystar version if a bit of waterproofing is what you're after.

These were the best fit for me. After wearing them in they're superb.
I wear them on colder days, 7C ish but after an hour it's about time to stop for a warm up of the pinkies.

How bothered are you glove buyers about CE and CE2 type labelling - and the distinct possibility that some manufacturers are faking such quality marking and PPE blurb, etc.

Tbh I care little about labels, it's how gloves feel on the bars that matters to me. Build quiality shines through. I ride in short summer gloves all year round because they 'feel' right and just change them when wet. I just don't like chunky gloves. Crosser gloves with armour are my personal favourite for when I'm pootling around behind a ped at 28mph (max) for 2 hours. Anthing else is leather short summer gloves.

Used these Bering Zeff gloves for a few years now. Dead comfy, good feel and CE rated (if you're bothered about such things). Seem to be holding up well despite wet weather use.

I'm still on my Alpinestars SP-8 that I bought in 2017. I almost never wear them in rain. They're not quite full-on summer - if 1 is light and short and 10 is full-on subzero winter, I'd say they're around a 3.

I had some slightly more expensive A* (GP Plus, I think) before that but they wore out fast. I had Held dual-climate gloves (Held Twin I think, pretty pricey), and those developed a hole pretty rapidly too. I don't think they were a good tradeoff either; too much palm-side padding in the winter / rain pocket and too much on the back in the summer / dry pocket. I had some kangaroo leather gloves (Halvarssons Dino), those developed a hole after less than a thousand miles.

At this point I suspect whether a glove lasts you or not depends on fit and how it sits between your hands and the grips, your riding style and the dynamics, etc. What works for one person might not work for another.

I've never trusted short gloves so have never owned a pair. Guess I'm in a bit of a minority on this one.

When I bought my last gloves the shop lady told me not to get short gloves because the cuffs on my jacket are just stretchy velcro and not the strap type so you need the long gloves in case the sleeves slide up I guess. I dont find long gloves uncomfortable so I usually go for longer ones anyway.
