Looking in Android apparently I last used the app 3 weeks ago but I know it was pissing me off with unnecessary alerts / notifications / messages for a while before I gave up on hoping that it would be fixed.

You could try it again. I installed mine (on Android 8.1.0) about an hour after it became available (24/Sep I think), and had one alert early on saying that I'd been close to someone who'd reported symptoms (not from the app, but caused by Apple and Google default privacy notifications), which should not have been sent, and one "stuck on loading" problem, plus the "Your area has changed tier" ones. It's been pretty reliable, as far as I'm aware. I have had no "you need to self-isolate" messages, thank goodness.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it numerous times before I gave up on it completely.

It's reinstalled now because I know how to see in Android when an app which is currently installed was last used therefore it was easier to reinstall it to find out when I last used it as opposed to finding out how to see when an uninstalled app was last used. Razz

Now I'll get to see if the app behaves properly yet.

As I said above:

I am not calling you lazy, ignorant or stupid. You're just one of those who cannot run the thing.

Unless of course you can upgrade your O/S and take advantage of the new features:

Same here - iPhone 6 which works fine for everything I need; this is the first time its ever been prevented from running an app due to out-of-date tech. Nice one, Mr Hancock.

Phone simply won't do it - end of.

Why's it Mr Hancock's fault exactly that the NHS COVID-19 app uses the same Google and Apple technology that lots of the rest of the world uses, which is what exposes the shortcomings of (mainly) iOS's exposure notification framework? Especially when people were screaming at the DHSC "Just use the Google Apple product, and stop fannying around trying to make one ourselves"?

Didn't Mary Anning find an iphone 6 embedded in coprolite, somewhere near Lyme Regis? It's comletely out of support, you know.

So9 why did we need to wait months after the rest of the world for a track and trace app without paying millions to a crony for one that never worked before we got one that worked.

For a given value of worked...

I've no idea, I wasn't involved in it, unfortunately. It was thought that we cound make a better job of it than the general offering, which I am sure would indeed have been possible in time, but they kicked it out as it would have taken until (hopefully!) winter, and they wanted a faster solution so that everybody could download it and install it on their mobile devices if capable. So we sort-of go full circle to a number of comments ago. The app itself seems to be pretty good at what it does. There's the rest of the manual NHS Covid-19 contact tracing services system, which has come in for criticism, but the idea was to get it ready as soon as possible. I find it odd that that system itself comes in for more criticism than those who refuse to cooperate and help.

Also, on a personal note. I am long past giving a flying fuck about catching covid 19.

You catch the virus, not necessarily COVID-19. You should know that by now. I also could not care less if you get the virus, or COVID-19. I do care that you don't do all you can to prevent spreading it. Disgraceful.

Oh. I can rationalise why I SHOULD give a fuck. I'm a hyper-rational person. But I'm sufficiently in touch with myself to realise I actually do not, I'm just going through the motions to appear like I care while I don't actually care about most people.

I'm also sufficiently in touch with myself to realise if I genuinely worried about the risk of most other people and my own chances of contracting and/or passing on covid for what is approaching 12 months now. I'd have gone totally insane.

I can hear a story about a murdered child on the radio on my way to work in the car, then get pissed off because someone double-booked my first consult. If you have no capacity to do this, you'd spend your entire life with your head under a blanket and your fingers in your ears

Not giving a fuck about what happens to most other people is a totally normal mental state for a human being with a very low number of very personal exceptions.

Trying to appear if you do give a fuck to the wider community so judgy bastards don't get all self-riteous is also normal.

Have to agree with the above. It's like the wall to wall charity adverts on the lesser TV channels. If you worried about every one you'd be broke and a mental wreck.

I don't watch TV Laughing

Those begging ads are part of the reason why, along with the need to put left wing politics into every programme, and having better things to do.

When I did one of my firefighting courses I had to wear something like that. Never again. Hot, heavy and claustrophobic. I couldn't function.
