Morning y'all,

Does anyone know if there are any inherent compatibility issues with a relatively high res laptop screen (in this case, a 14.5" screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600) connected to a relatively low res external monitor as a second screen (24" 1920 x 1080)? I seem to keep hitting an issue where the second screen image is distorted quite badly (fuzzy), not the monitor as turning it off and on doesn't resolve it, but if I disable the second screen output from the laptop and re-enable it the image is OK.

Cheers Thumbs Up

It shouldn't matter, as long as your laptop detects the monitor properly. It should realise that your main display is a higher resolution than your secondary display.

Connect the monitor, and then try updating the monitor driver. It might find a better/more appropriate one for the monitor.

Good idea, just done that. Will have to see. It's an erratic issue which is always all the harder to address as it can appear ok for days, then suddenly wobble.

Try a different cable. If it’s HDMI, it doesn’t need to be an expensive cable, but make sure it’s at least minimum spec for the port.

Are you mirroring the screen or extending it or only using one of the 2 displays connected?

It matters on some laptops. My workshop one (Elitebook) requires a monitor of it's native resolution in order to not distort the screen. It's a known driver issue that they never addressed.
