So you don't want the likes of Elron Musk or Jeff Bezos paying any more tax then?

If they pay the same percentage they would pay more actual. Why should the percentage be different? Keep it simple and people wont be able to dodge paying, it's when you have all different rates for different reasons that things get complicated and loopholes can be found.

Until you get into that rate then you start questioning why you work hard to earn your money and its' being taken off you for apparently no return as you no longer qualify for anything from the state.

Why would either of them be paying income tax on dividends in the UK when both companies are on American stock exchanges and both are domiciled in the United States?

I want everyone to pay their taxes, I also want taxes to be less. Small government. Small taxes. Libertarianism is the way.

I did suggest one time that maybe people would be happy to pay their taxes, e.g. voluntarily fill in a capital gains form and attach a cheque, if they felt the money was being spent correctly...

Everyone in the pub was laughing for ages over that idea Sad

No one wants to pay tax. Anyone who says anything different is a liar.

What everyone thinks - I'll pay my share because I can't get out of it. Because I have to pay I'll go holier than thou and pretend I'm a good person who hates tax dodgers.

I personally think that we should all pay the same percentage tax. If it was say 10% you would only pay £10 from your £100 pay and £4,000 from your £40,000 pay packet. So the richer does pay more. I'm not wealthy by any means, but it would be fare. Capital gains tax and inheritance tax should be zero as taxes will have been ripped out of those assets at the time of purchase or with the maintenance of the assets. Very simple, very easy, no loopholes and everyone can follow it easily.

That is quite a simplistic view of tax, the average percentage will also have to be much higher because proportionally so much comes from high earners, and so little would be obtained from low earners. Basically all your proposal would do is increase taxes on poor people and result in a bigger benefits system. Tax isn't just a way of collecting revenue its also there to implement policy, and lets us do things like push investment away from London and out into the rest of the UK.

I make in the very low six figures, pay all my taxes due and still get shite from cunts who are just, well: jealous. The upper-end of the middle class gets absolutely hammered, since I make over £100,000.00 I lose my personal allowance.

To the people who give the usual pish talk of "well you make enough so no fucks given", how would you like it if the government took £4 off you just because you had a tenner? You wouldn't be happy.

The £50 - 150k demographic are hammered hardest in taxes. Why? The people earning less pay less as a percentage and the people who pay more have other ways to pay themselves, are normally business owners and use their business to pay for things, have more tax-efficient wrappers and ways to hide wealth, etc.

Well I am genuinely really happy for you earning your 100k.

It's glorious isn't it.

As Jordan Peterson has said, just imagine being arrogant enough to think that if you were in charge, you'd be the one to usher in the utopia.

You say that but in Ye Olden Days when the Church had tithes such feelings weren't universal. Better Public Relations for the cause, back then apparently.

"Nobody wants to pay their fair share." implies that nobody sees it as fair Sad

The massive spending on foreign aid and what are seen as fairly pointless jobs like diversity consultants and excess management, combined with often quite poor performance of courts and police really hasn't helped the image of tax. They feel that they don't get what they paid for, and in that they are probably justified.

I despise paying tax, every penny of it taken is grudged. I’m not holier than thou, I am utterly spiteful instead. If we are being honest Laughing

Rated as spam but you'd be surprised on how much HMRC can't track capital gains. Especially if it's not on UK traded shares.

Have you looked at what someone in your line of work was paid 43 years ago when Thatcher came to power then looked at how the contemporary income matches up to the rate of inflation? I suspect you will find your income class has exceeded the rate of inflation compared with lower status workers.
Im in a low status occupation and i calculated a few years ago that pay recession meant I am owed in excess of £50k for the loses over twenty years of getting rooked.

You could of course move to a country with f#@k all income tax but you might find the cost of private security far outweighs any tax you pay here.

My role wouldn't have existed 43 years ago as the technology didn't exist then. Bit moot really.

Ah yes, you obviously know that people can easily move to any country they feel like because foreign Governments just hand out green cards and visas on a whim to any cunt who wants them.

There's always an equivalent so no moot really, either you dont understand the principal I was aluding to or just want to avoid the point being made.

Careful, you play into his fantasy that everyone is jealous of him Laughing you have to be nice to anyone who displays and measure of affluence in case you fan there fantasy that everyone less well of than themselves is just seething with envy. I do wonder though if that is actually a lot of projection and people with wealth actually inhabit that state of mind to such a degree they cannot imagine others do not.

The world moves on; the people who are capable of moving with it will be okay but those who can't keep up, why wouldn't they be resentful?

Well the devil makes work for idle hands and now we have HR departments Sad
