Careful, you play into his fantasy that everyone is jealous of him Laughing you have to be nice to anyone who displays and measure of affluence in case you fan there fantasy that everyone less well of than themselves is just seething with envy. I do wonder though if that is actually a lot of projection and people with wealth actually inhabit that state of mind to such a degree they cannot imagine others do not.

Jealous of me? I am merely comfortable mate, nothing to be jealous about here unfortunately. Networking and at events I sit at dinner tables where people have watches that are more expensive than all my assets combined and quadrupled Laughing

The Patricians of old would have fine clothes sewn with golden thread. Now all the gents at a diner event are Moss Bros clones. You could probably sort the tailor made vs. off the peg crowd if you're at a particularly low brow event but other than that all you have is the watches and cufflinks, maybe a pin.

It's one of the "successes" of equality: everyone in the same clothes, they all have an iPhone, very little to separate the rich from the mega-rich Thinking

Bet it's a proper 40+ year old antique Casio Wink

Collecting antique Rolex watches, for example, is a hobby for the merely wealthy. When you're filthy rich Rolex are ringing your PA to ask what they can make sir (or madam) this month.

tl;dr you can't buy taste. Only the dirt poor and the filthy rich realise this.

I don't know about that, my MD wears his Rolex as much as he does his Chopard and Patek. I personally know the Chief Exec of a FTSE100 company and he wears a Breitling.
