The sort you put the bike in, not the type you shag in.

I have a hardstanding but to put a full height shed on it wont really work for various reasons.

I prefer the idea of a hard wearing canopy i can cocoon the bike in rsther than mess around trying to tie the cover up.

Main aim is weather protection rather than antiscrote in my area.

Recommendations please. Hardstanding is concretete top fuck knows what rubble the previous owners built it up with

I think before you invest it may be worth noting that:

(1) Whatever brand you go with these types of "sheds" are designed to be anchored into the floor to prevent them from flying away, and are therefore best suited to grass / soil areas. If you've got a flat concrete area I'd probably look at the cost of large bags of sand to weigh the legs down. I don't think I'd entertain digging up the concrete because you need to go quite deep when you twist the anchors into the soil, and since you don't know what's underneath your area its hard to say how hard that would be.

You may think that the "shed" flying away isn't probable, but even anchored into the ground and with any serious gust mine wobbles. Not to an overly dramatic extent, but they are just light tubes with a tarpaulin on the top after all. There's not any great extensive weight in them (just large in size physically).

(2) In the winter cold moisture can build up inside and form water droplets that may have you believing there's a leak, but often there's not (only really experienced this in the very cold minus temps recently).

In summer being inside them is unbearable, and outside is often cooler.

(3) There's no security to them, and wondering cats love to get inside them. If you have any unnurtured male cats in your area you'll soon now about it (pee on things).

(4) Stall clips (cheap at screwfix) are worth having so that you can clip the ends and top cover together and make a tighter shelter.

~

Wayfair may be worth a look as to where to buy one from. Really depends on your budget and the size you have space for, or actually need.

https://www.storm-protector.co.uk/

Best quality I've come across, can be locked close with a padlock, just bolt straight to the concrete using the supplied anchors.

In theory they are great for protecting your bike from the elements, but if you are not in a very sheltered spot the wind will rip it to shreds which could also result in the canopy slapping against the bike & damaging it.

It does get wind but not so much
It is quite sheltered which is part of the problem, its on the north aspect and sees no sun at all oct-march. Want to try and keep the water out as best i can, ive had issues with brake pads etc swelling and all sorts. As much as living in brighton was a pain with the salt air eating everying, it was pretty much always getting a load of sun to dry it out properly

useful stuff.

Thanks ill have a think about that. Stopping the neighbours two cats shitting on the bike would be helpful, so it may be counterproductive

I just dont like the way the cover sticks to the bike like a used condom, seems like it lets water leach through when its against the frame. And its a faff to get on so the reality is i dont bother which is what i want to change

I think results will be disappointing compared to even the most rudimentary more permanent shelter, a strong gusty wind from wrong direction could do some damage too.
Condensation and reduced air movement will mean it's often wetter with the cover on than with it off.

The hard standing is built up in my garden to be level with the access lane (sorry, mews according to the hyacinth next door)at the back. I do have a right of access. If i stick a shed on there i block out what little light my kitchen window and the rest of the garden gets.

As the hard standing is raised as well, it catches more sun than the rest of the garden at the back so ive stuck a bench on it too (the previous owners squeezed a fiesta on it) so it gives me somewhere to have a cuppa in peace outdoors. Plan to use the sunniest corner to try and grow some tomatoes or chillies once i get round to it. Plus that gives me the flexibility to move the bench and get 5 bikes or so on it for visitors. As its all still new to me i dont want to commit the space up permenantly until ive got my head round what i want[/img]

I had one of those up and over tent type covers twenty years ago. The problem was the material sagging between the frame supports allowing water to pool and eventually finding it's way through.

Waterproofing might well have improved since then, but I've never known any materials that didn't eventually leak. The weather takes it's toll in the end.

Who was it who posted about a year ago about a bespoke mini timber bike shed they'd built on their drive, no more than about chest high? Anyone got a link? Something like that might work for the OP and would be a lot better than a "tent"
