the names on the birthday list are long gone or not been active for years.

Perhaps it's a cynical plan to keep your brake pads safely in their shrink wrapped packets while giving the appearance of generosity at little or no cost to yourself.

I think the naysayers are being unduly suspicious here and should give our new EBC friends the benefit of the doubt, at least until we see how this pans out. But I totally agree that the random birthday approach is flawed and would suggest that if the OP is serious, qualifying entrants should at least have posted here within the last 12 months or something.

Come to think of it, if there are only going to be prize draws in February the birthday approach is flawed anyway, as for no good reason it rules out the 11/12ths of users who weren't born in February (or who aren't corrupt enough to cunningly change their stored birthdate...

Mind you, I won't be winning anything as my DOB isn't saved on the site - one of my pet online irritations is logins which for no good reason ask you to part with that pretty fundamental piece of personal security information.
