Hello,

I've just bought myself a Honda CBR125, it has an Acumen Cat Alarm fitted.

I put the bike in to neutral and the electric start wouldn't work. Does anybody have any idea why? I thought it could be because the alarm thinks that I am stealing my own bike!

Thanks.

If you've bought a bike and the alarm is preventing you from starting it, there's something wrong with the alarm, or your keyfob, and you should contact whoever you purchased the bike from to get it sorted.

Nobody here will tell you how to circumvent an alarm, even if they knew, because for all we know you've just spotted this bike outside somewhere, had a chat with the owner to find out what alarm is fitted, and then come on here to try to find out how to get around it.

The kill switch is normally red and on the right hand handlebar, and must be in the "run" position, before the bike will start.

The earlier cbr's dont have a kill switch, the battery's however are prone to going, what i'd recommend is bump starting it, see if that gets you anywhere. Many a time when ive had a flat battery it doesnt even make a slight turning over noise and just acts like the stand is on preventing it from starting.

When you use the electric start do you hear a hissing noise coming from the starter rotor? Mine did that when I had a flat battery but started after bumping it.

In any case your battery will either need charging or replacing

From the five minutes it took for me to read that, I can gather that your battery is flat.

Charge or replace

Have you tried holding the starter motor in whilst pushing as hard as you can on the left footpeg?

Common fault iirc

Thumbs Up

The alarm could have drained your battery if you left it for too long

Get yourself a cheap multimeter for around a tenner from Maplins or elsewhere. It'll take the guessing game out of dealing with batteries and electrics.

The bike looks like mine, apart from the extra stickers, gaffa tape and cracks. They're not a bad bike. It doesn't have a kill switch either, tho it does have something that pretends to be a choke.

Could be the cross flank coupler mate,

Get the seat and tank off and have a look for a X shaped connector with yellow and purple markings.

It uses these old cross connectors but you might be better off replacing with a circle connector instead.
