Hi
I have a yamaha fazer fzs 600 on a 03 plate, seems to have developed an electrical fault. The bike will only start when the clutch lever is pulled in and when released it cuts out straight away.
Second when running if put in gear it instantly cuts out, i suspect both fault are related. Any help would save me a major headache.

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I have had to bypass the clutch switch to start the bike, not sure if bypassing the side stand switch will make a difference but worth a go?

as i said im very new to this, but as i understand it, the clutch switch, side stand switch, and neutral switch all affect a bikes ability to start and run

from what you have said about it cutting out as soon as you put it into gear, it sounds like the bike is cutting out as it thinks the side stand is out

its only 2 wires so fairly easy to do, cheap to replace too

your first point about the clutch lever, is the gear selection/neutral showing up correctly ?

"The bike will only start when the clutch lever is pulled in" this would suggest the bike thinks your in gear so wont start because of this

Well just tried by passing both clutch and side stand switch and still cuts out when gear is selected?
1.Bike will not start without either the clutch lever pulled in our switch bypassed.
2. When bypassed bike will run but when clutch lever is pulled in and gear engaged bike cuts out.
Neutral light is working when disconnected from plug light goes out and comes on when plug is reconnected.

not sure what to try next?

In that case you've done it wrong.

Can you see the exact wiring diagram for your bike ?

If you can then you should be able to "see" where wires go and Thier colours, like the side stand switch, clutch switch, neutral switch etc. and determine if they are normally open for starting/running etc., Etc..

Are things like the clutch, stand and neutral switch "inhibitor" switches that prevent, for example, bike on side stand in neutral clutch out, the bike is in a condition that the starter will work and the engine will run, unlike, if on side stand and in gear with clutch out, it will not allow the starter to work or engine to run ( cos it will fall over ), or, if on stand and in gear and the clutch held in, it is allowed to start and run cos it won't fall over cos the clutch is held in ? Etc..

Yes the diagrams can be "spaghetti junction" until you know how to read them.

For your situation, ignorn the indicator circuit as that's not relevent, at the moment, etc..

Try and post the diagram again...

Thanks for the info, ill trace all the wires back and check for open closed circuits(Ohms, continuity) Hopefully it will be something obvious.

Not sure what's happening when i try to upload a wiring diagram it just disapears? ill keep trying.

If that is the correct wiring diagram, print it off to A3 size, difficult to see on a small phone screen.
Also put bike on centre stand for safety.

Quick update, finally nailed the fault it was an intermittent connection on the pick up coil plug. As the side stand plug and neutral plug are located in the same place as the pick up plug i must have pulled one of the wire and so it became intermittent when trying to run. Still unsure as to why it caused me to have to pull the clutch lever in to start but it RUNS!!
Thanks again everyone for all your help.
