Anyway, what’s all this about under-30s in the UK to be offered an alternative Covid vaccine to the AstraZeneca jab due to the evidence linking it to rare blood clots.
FFS, there’s no direct link, the frequency is less than pre-COVID times, less than air travel and The Pill. Using the phrase, “The benefits outweigh the risks” just reinforces the false view that vaccination promotes clotting. Media pressure overtaking the science. It’s even more damaging because some with an appointment for their second jab might now be deterred, without good reason.

You also have to wonder whether scrutiny of the AZ vaccine specifically is partly because AZ are producing at cost whereas the others are charging. Sly capitalist lobbying?

Nothing for you here. Go back to your telescope. Those stars aren't going to watch themselves.

Aye, biology is a poorly understood game.

The great thing is that monitoring has lit up any issue.

The issue is not anything exceptional if compared to other medicines.

Some long proven medicines are not advised for certain age groups.

Good example is common or garden aspirin.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/reyes-syndrome/

And we stopped 'trialling' aspirin decades ago.

History suggests it was used as far back as 400BC

The only problem that this clotting case produces, is that the conspiracy theorists and Anti-Vaxers will use the wind from it to further their campaign of nonsense/non-science.

Which is a pity as the vaccine is proving efficacious for older people who may be unduly alarmed and confused by the Bullshite.

Their loss. Look at the effects of having the vaccine in UK. At least half is due to the AZ vaccine and we will be out of this mess soon. I don't give a flying fuck if Europe want to kill a few more 1000's of their citizens to prove a political point. Well, I do really but rather them than us.

I think the government are wrong to say they will give a different vaccine to the under 30's simply because it gives the wrong message as Kawasaki Jimbo and MCN point out in their posts. However if they have enough vaccines so that it doesn't affect the roll out, so be it.

My worry is all those poorer countries who rely on Covax and the AZ vaccine are going to have people who are more scared of getting the AZ jab than not having it. They aren't going to get a different choice of vaccine.

Perhaps Ursula will go down as the purveyor of death for the Covid crisis, with Angela and Macron as her acolytes. What they have done could increase the death toll the world over. The Angels of Death.

The death rate for Covid is about 0.25% (and the rate would have risen without lockdowns and vaccines.)

The rate for potential blood clots (and only 19 have died) is in the region of 0.00003%. Thats several orders of magnitute less risk of dying with the vaccine than without the vaccine. And as yet there is only a potential causal link to the vaccine and the death rate due to these rare bloodclots is actually lower than in the population in general.

But believe what you like. Enjoy dying whilst drowning on your own bodily fluids.

What truth is there in the claim that Florida and Texas, who haven't had stringent lockdowns, have faired no worse than anywhere in the US that has?

Personally, I think there are too many variables to make sweeping, definitive claims. Anyway, we are where we are. In the UK at least, domestically, we should be very reluctant about further restrictions at this point. And people must lose this mentality of "oh we can't let anyone die, ever!" I could name quite a few I wouldn't mind helping on their way Twisted Evil

Whilst lacking a spleen, I haven't had a flu jab in ages, and I have yet to experience this. I feel cheated!

What? Scotland has large areas of remote nothingness. Since your Scottish Nazi Party is going to be building concentration camps for those who say the wrong thing in these areas if you get your independence, why not throw a few virus-spreaders in there too?

Your trouble is you're reacting emotionally, not using pure facts and logic Laughing

Everyone needs something to find scary.
You can wind yourself up to be scared of the vaccine.
or
you can wind yourself up to be scared of anti-vaxxers.

Everyone gets something to be terrified of, everyone wins! Very Happy

They didn't give those away because they don't work. The credo of medicine is 'primum non nocere' not "dole out quack remedies to all and sundry".

The vaccines do work. It's a no brainer for those of us with normally functioning brains. Laughing

Questions about efficacy notwithstanding, shall we have a little look at the adverse reaction profiles of Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine? The ACTUAL ones which have been directly associated with the drugs use.

Here are the known and proven adverse effects listed for hydroxychloroquine on its data sheet:

Retinopathy, Extrapyramidal disorders, Hypoglycaemia, Chronic cardiac toxicity, Bone marrow depression, Potential carcinogenic risk, Suicidal behaviour and psychiatric disorders.

Ivermectin:
abnormal sensation in eye; anaemia; appetite decreased; asthenia; asthma exacerbated; chest discomfort; coma; confusion; conjunctival haemorrhage; constipation; diarrhoea; difficulty standing; difficulty walking; dizziness; drowsiness; dyspnoea; encephalopathy; eosinophilia; eye inflammation; faecal incontinence; fever; gastrointestinal discomfort; headache; hepatitis; hypotension; joint disorders; leucopenia; lymphatic abnormalities; Mazzotti reaction aggravated; myalgia; nausea; oedema; pain; psychiatric disorder; seizure; severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs); stupor; tachycardia; tremor; urinary incontinence; vertigo; vomiting

Yes. Well that sounds great. Lets hand them out at schools and supermarkets nationwide.
