Brand new? None of them. You can't even get a GTX 1650 (their lowest spec new card for gaming) for less than £145.

Literally the best you could get for less than £100 is the GT 1030 but it would be pointless as the integrated graphics on an AMD Ryzen CPU would smoke it all day long.

There isn't any integrated graphics in my Ryzen 7....

Which Ryzen 7? There are three generations of the Ryzen 7 line mate.

For the avoidance of doubt, I meant the actual CPUs intended to be used without discrete GPUs, the G and GE suffixed SKUs:

Nvidia graphics cards have literally gone stratospheric in the last year.

People are selling the empty boxes from the GTX 2060Ti for £40 for pity's sake. If you can avoid buying one now, I would because once lockdown eases the demand for cards will drop a bit. Also the chip fabs all shut down because of Covid too. It's like a perfect storm.

In fact, most hobby type products have gone up. RC models have increased a bit, two stroke motorcycles have gone nutsoid, but really that's all nothing compared to the pricing of graphics cards. My GTX1070 was on the expensive side when I bought it, about a year after it came out. As I recall I paid £300 for it. Nowadays the second tier Nvidia cards are going in retail for £1000. That's stupid money

I've often wondered why you'd buy a box for something like thatand fraud is the only thing I can come up with.

Yes I assume it's to try to get a refund or something? I'm not 100% sure.

GPU prices are extreme because:
1. Not enough advanced fab capacity around the 7nm mark. It's used for phones, Xbox, PS5, AMD CPUs, nVidia GPUs...
2. Covid demands for working from home
3. Miners start using the cards too

If you can wait until the end of the year the prices will probably crash as fab capacity increases, miners dump their old cards, people work from home less and 40 series GPUs get announced. Currently it's not a case of "how much" and more one of "is even in stock".

It's an old Gen 3 I5 so would be pointless adding a new expensive graphics card which is why I asked about cards around the £100 mark.

Computer will mainly be used for office type work running dual screens and maybe some very old games so again no point spending a fortune on a graphics card.

So can anyone recommend an appropriate card around the £100 mark?

Or a GT1030 for just over a ton

Scan have 1030s in stock for under a ton. But as said above, Gfx card stock is up and down like a tarts knickers at the moment. Everything is over priced / not available.

Bad time to buy.

For 100 quid, a 1030 is a good card. You're obviously not going to get ray-tracing etc on a 2 gig card of that calibre, but then again you're not paying a grand either. It meets and exceeds all of the OPs requirements by a decent margin.

Short answer whatever you can get second hand. First number(2 numbers in newer cards) is the series second set of numbers is the performance level.

This is the Series Order (no 8 series) from oldest backwards. 30,20,10,9,7,6 etc.

For the second number generally 50/60 are lower end 70 is mid 80/90 is top. Anything that ends 10/40 is utterly pointless unless have no on board graphics and it is the cheapest card you can find. There is literally no point to a £100 (new) graphics card it barely does more than onboard graphics. Get the cheapest one you can or go SH.

As a very rough guide a every series performance goes up a step e.g. a 1070 will have similar performance to a 2060 and a 980. That is VERY rough and there are lots of exceptions.

Something else to consider is generally speaking the higher the performance level the more power the card needs. Unless you have a beefy PSU you may struggle to run a 70/80 level card.

TBH prices are insane at the moment. I sold 2x780s for £100 5 months ago. I'm not sure £100 would get you one now.

All that being said I wouldn't buy a card right now things are crazy price wise.
If you are buying it as an upgrade don't wait for things to calm down. If you just need a card by the cheapest thing you can that is compatible with your set up.
