So last summer I got clocked at 134 in a 70 by a speed gun.

Result is a 3 month ban & £638 fine for anyone interested or who is facing the same/similar thing.

Not so bad for not showing up to court lol.

Letter says I can apply to renew my driving licence after 3 months (or up to 2 months before the ban ends). Fuck knows what that means about having to retake a test etc.

Although the letter doesn't explicitly say I have to retake my tests, I think over 56 days and you have to retake your test anyway.

AIGHT DEN.

Ouch. Laughing

You only have to retake your test if the court said so.

Sorry to hear you got caught mate. What area you in? Here in Central Scotland I hardly ever see static cameras or the speed camera vans except in the same few locations. The biggest worry is unmarked Traffic cars as they constantly loop the M73, M74, M77, M80 and M8 motorways.

Gutted for you.

Did you sell the bike in the end? The beak take much notice in that, if you did?

If that had been in Scotland it would be automatically DD (not speeding) and a minimum 1 year ban, plus a full resit. And very likely a few months in jail.

There should be no requirement for a re-sit unless you have been told to.

The 56 day thing is wrong. You just have to reapply for a new license if it's more that 56 days.

Was caught in Norwich by a speed gun, I've never rode that way before.

On the plus side they didn't see the two 100+ wheelies somehow. Got pulled over later down the road by a marked car (I thought for the wheelies) but then they told me it'd be speeding.

The copper was alright though, he said what I did wasn't inherently dangerous Laughing something along the lines of "You didn't really do anything dangerous that put other road users in danger because there were no other vehicles on the road, but you still broke the law by nearly double the limit so I have to report you for the offence of speeding". He was being completely fair tbh.

With insurance, yeah it's gonna be a bitch, but I've got a plan anyway.

Probably going to just get a stupid track bike, SORN it, and book a million track days as soon as I get my road licence back. CBA to do ACUs every year. Will get a shitty run-about for road riding in the meantime, maybe something cheap like a sumo.

Then after the ban comes off my record and insurance cheapens out I might consider upgrading to something better for the road.

Either way, headache, not gonna speed again.

If it had been in front of a certain Sheriff at Airdrie Sheriff Court then it could be the maximum punishment available to a Sheriff for the offence. There was a Sheriff notorious in his time for coming down ultra-hard on all motoring offenses.

"You will normally not have to retake your test once your ban is spent. However, it is entirely up to the discretion of the court and, in extreme circumstances... "
the letter should explain as a retest would be part of a punishment..

incidentally where in Norwich were you caught ? ..

That's reassuring, there's no mention of a re-test. It was my first offence too so maybe they felt I'd learn my lesson with a disqualification.

It says disqualified, not licence revoked, so I'll just have to see when I go to re-apply for the licence in around a month and see what happens.

Literally couldn't tell you where. Some empty long dual carriageway somewhere with roundabouts. Pretty huge stretch of road. It's been so long since I actually got caught.

You might also be surprised at how little a speeding ban affects your insewerance.

When I went to the Isle of Wight for a blast, I was on my supermoto and was on one wheel more than 2, stamping the rear brake to slide it out etc.

Accidentally rode wrong way down a 1 way into a Tesco.

Police turned up about 15 mins later after we got ice creams and blocked us in, was thinking fuck, been flying around like a prick, acting proper knob like...

Did me for no speedo cable and non road-legal exhaust Laughing I've never been so thankful for people not coming over and saying this mug was hoofing around like a prick.

I behaved after that, until we were off the ferry at least Shifty

Probably looked at the gap where the speedo cable should have been.

Agreed. Generally speaking a ban is preferable to 6 points or so (in one hit anyway, 2xSP30's not so much).

Don't ask me the logic - the pricing goons work that stuff out; there's no underwriting involved and hasn't been for years.

My bike insurance went down when I got 6 points in one go...

2 x SP30s is heavy on premiums.
For three years and for every vehicle.

Gets boring for two bikes and a car for three years.

Shocked Shocked

Seems rather severe . . .

Oh yeah btw, I ran some quotes including the 3 month ban and fine.

Fewer places will insure me, but my insurance is cheaper at £830/year on a fully kitted out M1000RR if I want one.

My S1000RR M cost me £1.4k to insure last year with a clean licence.

I got some cheap quotes, with £2000 excess. What’s your excess on that quote?
