Car number plates

I have been hearing whispers that the new style of plates where the digits stand proud of the surface are being made illegal (4D I believe they’re called?) in the very near future? Anybody hear the same - andif so will it just prevent the sale of them? If I’ve bought a set and got them fitted would they need removing?

You can but "Show plates" in any style and size you want. Getting pulled for them is a.differwnt story. North Wales? Definitely getting a chat about them at a.minimum. rural Scotland? Doubt anyone would bat an eyelid as long as you're not ragging it like a twat.

I don't think they've ever strictly been legal, I think it's just some loophole that the 'Dub scene' have been trying to exploit to make their cars look more 'euro'.

It's a bit like the phase where people stuck black plates with silver characters on to cars, even though this is only legal on cars pre 1970 or something like that?

Looks gash anyway, put a normal plate on, is my advice.

It'll be a tricky thing to enforce on old bikes (black and silver valid for "historic" registered vehicles, i.e. pre-1981) as plates would be stamped out of tin plate.

I've seen a BMW car down my road with this new style. TBH it looks quite nice: regulation font but made from plastic letters glued to a plate... if that is actually what we're talking about

If the plates are the regulation standard for what was legal at time of registration then there is no issue.

I have new stamped metal plates for a 1957 bike. 100% legal to fix for use on the queen's highways (and by-ways).

ive been seeing a lot of plates with what id describe as a smoked effect, around my way lately, on the posers cars.
not sure how they are legal as they are a lot darker than standard plates.
