Back in the 80s everyone waved. I always remember an old buffer on a CD175 (probably my age now!) with the upright windshield etc.,. would always wave as we crossed - me on my Fizzy on my way to school.
I suspect the non-wavers are midlife crisis bikers who visit Visordown..

First biker nod thread of 2021.

Some of the 125/scooter/commuter lot don’t nod because they’re unaware it’s a thing among “bikers.”

I nod to all sorts of motorised two-wheelers. If they don’t respond I don’t care.

I noticed when I moved from a sit-up-and-beg bike to a sportsbike the traditional nod meant looking down too far, too long, it was like a slow blink, so the sideways nod came into play.

I've been on the receiving end of a wave from a motor officer. Several times. The first time it happend I was doing 80 mph on the local motorway. The cop was going around 90 mph in the same direction. Shocked me more than a nod from a Hells Angel would have.
