Hi all wise BCF folk

Full on n00b question... I accept all chastising as my reward for being a numpty.

My main fuse has popped on my 99 CBR600... I've found the main fuse, but for the life of me the cover over it won't budge.

After 30 minutes trying various methods to remove the cover, I've given up and contemplating resuming my training as a alcoholic.

It has two push clips either side which I have pressed, wiggled and even stuck a pair of needle nose pliers on, but don't want to bugger anything.

Help and advice guys?

Ta, Dan

You are right in what you are doing, push the clips in and pull up on the red part.

It's not just the fuse in there, there is a connector block too which is probably a bit corroded and stuck. The one on Mrs stinkwheels CBR6 was a bit on the tight side too. Soak it liberally with WD40, particularly trying to squirt it up under the cover and leave it to sit for a bit before trying again. Wiggling side to side and pulling while holding the tabs in seems best. If your fingers are getting sore, you could put a cable tie on the tabs to hold them in.

You know there is a tool for fuse removal, right? Actually quite a few designs. This one is typical.

He can't get to the fuse itself, it's the cover that's stuck.

Those plastic tabs will have hardened over time. I predict the final, ‘nothing to lose’ brute force approach will win out.

Alcoholism has its limitations as a lifestyle. Patience is a noble undertaking, but eventually wears out. Before long the issue becomes titanic; something has to give. KJ, you write with the conviction of experience. I like the way you think. Wink

Laughing
I’m not saying go straight to full retard. Start with technique, then gentle persuasion, but I expect it won’t budge until you reach the last shit-or-bust stage. Then you’ll be thinking, “Shoulda gone straight there,” but the one time you do... Doh!

Yeah - seconded - hair dryer always helps me shift recalcitrant rubber tubing, hardened plastics etc on colder days.

The job in hand is to change the main fuse.

Number plate lamps on cars are the same- stupid little clips that are impossible to get off by hand , and then if you use a screwdriver the inevitable happens.

Sounds to me you need to pry fuck out of the cover. Once the cover is removed/ broken and the fuse is changed you can then decide whether to.

A. Superglue the cover back together.
or
B. Fix the remains of the cover on with a cable tie.
Or
C. Reel at the price for a new one from the Dealer / CMSNL / David Silver
or
D. Get a second hand one .
or
E. leave the bloody thing off.

Answers on a post card to...
