Alive ? Maybe? Similar to bacteria?
Certainly not sentient.

I’d define ‘Alive’ as something that is biological and trying to survive/replicate.

They're having to rethink the old accepted definition of life. I'd say that viruses do represent a form of life as they reproduce and evolve.
