Hi guys hoping someone can answer a few questions here.
I'm interested in wheelie control and how it works.
Is this the same as anti-wheelie? Or does anti-wheelie stop the bike being able to do wheelies at all, whereas wheelie control allows it to happen but without looping the bike?
Is it pretty much fool-proof? I appreciate NOTHING on a bike can truly be 100% fool-proof, but in realistic terms will it save you looping the bike in most normal scenarios (i.e. doing a wheelie in a controlled environment, nice straight road, not coming out of a corner, nothing else going pear shaped etc.)?
Does wheelie control allow you to do really nice high wheelies relatively safely or are they all controlled into being lame arse ones only a foot or so off the ground?
The reason I ask is I'm in the market for a new bike. I finally got round to listing my faithful FZ1 on eBay so as soon as that's gone I'll be officially bike shopping again. The missus would never allow me to buy my next bike before getting rid of the old one (she'd start banging on about why the hell I need to have two bikes?!) so up until now I've merely been window shopping. If I'm honest I've been window shopping for my next bike since I got the FZ1 I have currently, but I think that's normal right? Always thinking ahead to your next dream motor / dare I say it your next 'forever bike'?
I'm coming into my 3rd season of big bike biking (I've been riding a bit longer than that but only 125s and small displacement wretched bikes so don't really count the few years before my first big bike). So yeah spring 2019 I got my 1999 FZS600, spring 2020 I got my 2014 FZ1 and now I'm in the market for my next bike spring this year.
I've gradually been getting better with my wheelies but I think my age is against me / holding me back, because I only got into biking in my early 30s I think I'm a lot more cautious and I'm struggling with the confidence to get that front wheel really high for long periods of time than someone who got into biking at a younger age would have been and mastered it at a younger age when they had less fear. I have the technique down to do both power-ups and clutch-ups but as soon as the wheel lifts I chicken out and snap the throttle closed. That said, I am gradually getting better and more confident and I guess the more I practise the more confident I'll get. I'm just wondering if having a bike that I knew had wheelie control would give me the confidence to take my wheelies higher and further. Not that the plan would be to rely solely on the wheelie control to do all the work for me, but to know the failsafe is there should I take it too far might give me more confidence to get the front end up higher and further.
Anyway I thought I had my heart set on an MT-10 SP but wheelie control has spiked my interest lately and I don't believe the MT has it???
Any recommendations?
Criteria for my next bike are:
Has to be at least as powerful as my current bike (150bhp), preferably more powerful, the more powerful the better (yes I'm a childish speed squid!)
Has to have comfortable ergonomics like a traditional naked bike (I'm a bigger lad and having a few knee issues due to a recent injury so don't wanna be hunched over on a sports bike, to be honest even most sports tourers are too hunched over for my liking)
Has to have handlebars as opposed to clip-ons
Probably looking in the naked category but has to have some touring credentials like the Fazer and the MT where you can get a taller screen (Maidstone to Cambridge and back in the same day twice a week, and Spain twice a year). I'm NOT looking for a tourer! Would consider a sports tourer if the ergo was fairly neutral and had handlebars instead of clip-ons like the Super Duke GT for example. Would also consider an ADV so long is it's not too bulky and still flickable, sporty and fun to ride and most importantly capable of ripping mega dank nooners
MUST have cruise control
LED lights all round including the headlight would be nice but would would sacrifice this if my options are limited after all the other boxes have been checked
Shaft drive would be really, REALLY nice but I don't think a bike exists that has shaft drive that ticks all my other boxes.
And yeah, now of course I'm considering having wheelie control on the list of musts.
I was hoping to spend around £10k, new or used I don't care as anything that ticks all those boxes is going to be 2015 or later anyway but I appreciate that might be stretching it a bit to get all those boxes ticked for that budget so would go to £15k maybe even £20k if it was a brand new bike.
Being the autist specsheet/spreadsheet warrior that I am I've come up with a shortlist but I don't know which of these has wheelie control or whether I've omitted anything from the list?

On the downside one of the first things I'm going to want to do is upgrade the air filter and exhaust and get a dyno remap. I'm not going to be satisfied with just a slip-on, I'll want the cat gone. I've been doing some looking around and I don't see any de-cat solutions for the more exotic stuff like the Aprilias, Ducatis and KTMs. Does this bring me full circle back to the MT?
Would be very convenient as it's one of the cheapest in the list ____________________ 2024 BMW M1000XR
