Can anyone help please.

Had a speedfight 1 in garage since 2008 W reg. Was working fine .
Decided to get it running. Flushed fuel, clean carb, changed piston and piston rings.
When I try and turn it over it tries then seems to bind and sort of seiizes but not actually seized. If I take the spark plug out it turns over easy,,,

Any help would be much appreciated

Kickstart or electric start?

Why have you changed the piston and rings?

Electric. Kickstart goosed.
Changed piston due to oil coming out of head when spark plug removed.
Might just have been oil seeping in to head over time from oil pump. But was not sure so changed it.

Old 2-stroke scooter? How lovely Wink

I'd be checking it's actually the correct spark plug in there. If you've thrown in a new piston did you go through the whole process of setting the ring gaps? Did you align the gap correctly? (Could interfere with one of the ports otherwise.) What was the inside of the barrel like?

After checking all that I'd be wanting to pop the barrel off and turn the engine over by hand to isolate where the interference problem is: top or bottom end?

Hi.
I thought that about plug. But it's the same one that worked previously. I did screw it out to last thread thinking the same. But not that.
And yes rings set to the correct piston markers.
And as I said there is no sticking when the plug is out so I can't see it being anything wrong with barrel.
I will put the old piston back in and see what happens. Might buy Kickstart also.

Thanks for the replies

Have you charged the battery?

Excess oil in the cylinder isn't anything to do with the piston and rings, it's to do with excess oil going in.

It's been in a garage for 13 years. Have you checked the exhaust to make sure it isn't clogged with a mouse nest?

While you're at it, compare the pistons. Maybe you've been sent the wrong one and the new one is fractionally taller.

Been a while since I posted.
Changed piston back to old one. Still did not start.
So I checked the stator coil. All pick up points rusty. Gave it a clean bike started first go. It might just have needed a bit more voltage to turn it over if that's what the stator coil does, not sure but it worked. Cheers for the replies though.
