Running odd tyres front and rear?

Hi all
I own an xj600 and its not easy to find decent quality tyres as a pair. My local place actually said they were unable to source a matching pair.

Is it a bad idea to just purchase two good quality tyres, even if theyre a slightly different model?[/img]

Are they the correct OE specified sizes? If so, you should not have a problem. I've mixed tire marques on an older PC800 without ill effect, but that bike was definitely not a high performance machine.

Yep, buy Avon Roadriders ( now mk2) the best £ for performance option on these bikes with the 18in rear imo. Been running them for years, you will easily get 10k out of a rear and about 12-5k out of a front...

Take note of the sizes on your existing tyres, then plug that info into somewhere like https://www.mytyres.co.uk/ and shop away.

It sounds like the local place has a very limited list of suppliers or, worse, they can be bothered. If you decide to use the local place to fit your tyres then check everything before riding off and make sure the tyres are fitted in the right direction (indicated on the side wall).

At my local place, the mechanic has to test ride the motorbike afterwards which is reassuring. In the same way a bungy jump company avoided accidents by requiring the person who set up the equipment each day, to go first.
