Morning all,

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice??

I am 21 and am doing my CBT in 2 weeks. I am looking to get my first bike but without knowing too much about what's available, I would really appreciate some help.

I'll be looking to have the bike for a year or so before doing my full test.

The thing is I am pretty tall (6 foot 2 inches) and don't want to invest in a bike that will elave me crippled. I love the look and style of the lieks or the Aprilia RS125 or Cagiva Mito 125 but fear that these models are pretty small??

I have sat on an Aprilia Pegaso and it is a nice, comfortable size but i would like something a little different.

I have looked around the internet and am quite taken by the Honda NSR 125 but I live out in the sticks and getting to a dealer (with 125's) is a bit of a problem (and I'm very lazy!! Twisted Evil )

If there are any.... taller riders out there who may have a few suggestions then it will be much appreciated!!!!

Cheers

J

You would be better off doing your DAS straight after doing your CBT as you can then ride a bike of any size, much better using a 125. Have a look at this thread for license information.

125 are normally used by learners under the age of 21, as they can't do DAS, so get a 125 and use that for a bit and then do their restricted access test.

I have thought about that but having had no previous experience with a bike other than a quick blast on my cousin's ZXR400 around a carpark AND having fallen off!....in first gear!!! I have been advised to do few thousand miles or so on a 125 to get a more of a feel for it?

Also my little brother.... I say little but he is 6 foot! is 18 and the plan is for him to also make use of the bike when he gets off his backside to sort out a provisional/CBT.

Although if the general consensus is to do DAS straight away to get a suitable sized bike then I may well go for it?

Cheers for that link, it was very useful!

Aprilia pagaso is similar to to the Cagiva Supercity 125, but the cagiva is more common.

I've just taken my CBT and I'm 6' tall. I've a Yamaha SR125 which is pretty small but not uncomfortable. Plan is to take DAS soon and replace it with something larger.

My take is that sports style 125s are uncomfortable for tall riders with a naturally cramped riding position on a small bike. Bikes with an upright style, customs trailies etc. are more comfortable. Although seat height is often quoted, the SR125 is 745 mm which is pretty low, the more important characteristic is bar height which isn't usually quoted.

However as long as you can ride it, I'd just get something cheap and cheerful and plan to change it as soon as you've passed DAS.

The Honda Varadero might be worth a look too, similar the the Pegaso or consider something like a 125 trail bike. DT125? Not much to break on an off roader when you drop it and they usually have a tall seat height.

Thanks very much to all who replied!!

Some useful information!!

I'm thinking a "sports" 125 is not the way to go. i'll save the looks until I pass DAS

Cheers

Craig and Kris are both a fair bit taller than you and both had NSRs for ages... you really can't tell without sitting on the thing yourself.

I'd say Honda Vajadero or maybe a tall DT125

I am 6 2" and have an NSR, no problems so far, of course it is too small for me but I'm sure basically all 125's are. Maybe if I went from London to Glasgow it would hurt, luckily I will not be doing this.
