I'm old but stuck. Just started a barn find restoration and am having difficulty understanding the manual. It has instructions but they are not clear.
The headlight cover has one screw and some other fixture holding the top 2 corners.
Can anyone help please?

Are you sure it's a Suzuki FX50? Have a look here. If you click on the correct model you will see a diagram showing the head light unit.

Thank you for your reply.
Since my posting I had my suspicions that the model name was incorrect so I found out from the DVLA that it is an AY but with you link I also found out that it`s full description is an AY50W50 .
I now have a starting point and have ordered the Haines workshop manual.
Once again sincere thanks and please stay safe

No idea what the scoot is but on most/many
you have to pull at least one brake lever in prior to pressing the
button/kicking them over to start the motor

Yes that's it. Turn the key on, pull the front or rear brake lever and press the start button. That should turn the engine over.

The scoot is a Suzuki Katana AY50W.

I followed the advice and Eureka it turned over.
I didn`t try for long as I want to change all fluids and spark plug.

My next difficulty is removing the panels for accrss and cleaning and painting or covering but the removal instructions are very difficult to follow/
Thanks to all...................you are brilliant

So many scoots buzzing about nowdays so still means nothing to me

I do work on a local guys delivery scoots from time to time and
often had to remove the plastics at times.
Around the bars there are usually screws but some of the plastics are also clipped together as well as screwed.
most screws are accessed from behind or underneath and in the black plastic areas not the shiny painted stuff.
Many screws are recessed and some may have plugs covering them
which needs levering out to get the heads

To get at panels around the engine area, I've often had to start by lifting the seat and unbolting/removing the seat and bucket assembly first

You are so correct
The trouble is I can`t see them.
The illustrations are not clever but I`ll keep trying.
Thanks for the reply.
Kind regards,

Pages 91 for panels
and pages 110-111 for bar covers in the link
Oilyrag posted seem to cover it.

looks pretty straightforward to me and not unlike most
scoots I've worked on
Be aware that some panels may have 'hooks and eyes'
where they fit together as well as screws

Are you sure that the engine is in good running condition? It's a 2 stroke I'd make sure the engine ran ok before investing time and money in the cosmetic work.

It`s a bit cramped but I managed to remove the spark plug and clean it which produced a good spark.
I am now in the process of draining the 2 stroke oil and petrol which I will refresh and then see if it starts.
In the occasion of it not starting I shall return here and ask for what I can check before any more expense is incurred.

I`ve checked the MOT history and the last time was 04/2014 this is why I`m changing the fluids as I`m sure they will be stale.
Thank you for your input.
Kind regards,
wineprovider

I have replaced the carb after cleaning and squirted fuel into the chamber and eureka it fired but soon died and would not attempt a start again.
Is there an easy way to find out if fuel is reaching the carb?

I think there maybe one or more components faulty......ANY IDEAS?

Is there a way of testing the fuel valve?

I don`t think there is an on/off petrol valve/switch.

If an administrator can see this .....I'm not getting notifications of replies

Be safe all

1. Remove the fuel line from the carburetor. Direct it into a container.
2. Key switch on. Hit the starter button.
3. Observe fuel flow into container as the engine is cranking.
4. Reconnect fuel line to the carburetor.

Engine vacuum must be sufficient to operate the fuel valve.
If the fuel valve does not work, check for a vacuum leak. Check for a fuel line restriction. You can also use a vacuum pump (such as a Mightyvac brake bleeder pump) to apply vacuum to the fuel valve. Bottom line; if engine vacuum cannot open the fuel valve, the engine won't run.
