Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum and also the bikes world.

I bought a very badly kept pioneer Nevada 125 as a project and trying to bring it back to life.

I’ve done quite a bit of work on it so far and it’s much better in terms of looks.

When I picked it up, the previous owner told me it needs a battery.

However, he jump started just to show me it starts.

So I tried to charge the old battery but that didn’t work.

So I bought a new battery for it.

I put the new Battery in it today and at first nothing happened as if there was no battery connected.

I checked all the wiring and everything to make sure it’s connected properly and didn’t find anything visible.

With the old battery, the lights were coming on, the indicators were working and the brake lights were working too.

So I put the old battery back in again but nothing seems to be working even with the old battery!

I don’t have a single clue what’s going on.
How could something work 1 minute and the next stop working without anyone’s interference!?

Before changing battery, the battery gauge was moving when I was turning the ignition on. But now I have no movement in the gauge, no lights, nothing!! And that’s with the old and new battery.

I found a glass 15amp fuse under the seat which connects the + of the battery and that seems to be fine as the wire in the middle of it is not broken.

The strange part is that when I change the gears, I see a red digit changing where gauges are. This red digit indicates what gear I’m in and it only works if the battery is connected!

This indicates that battery is connected properly I assume.

Could someone please point me in the right direction?

You have a blown fuse somewhere.

Some bikes have two black wires to the battery, a heavy one for the starter and a lighter one for the loom. Remove the battery and check you haven't dropped one of those wires out of sight.

Finally managed to make it tick over.

But it won’t start now! It just goes over and over...

I’ve attached a video so you guys can see where I’m at with it.

Any pointers?

Ticking over is when the engine is running at idle speed. What you have there is 'cranking'.

Do you know how to check if the spark plug is sparking properly?

Spark first, fuel after.

I’ve been researching and found out that the issue could be from 3 things.

1- fuel (I have some left in the tank)
2- the spark plug (I have a new one as I recently replaced it myself)
3- the ignition coil (I’ve ordered a new one on eBay lastnight and will give this a go)

I will keep you guys posted.

Does it have a sidestand cutout? I had a similar Chinese bike and with the stand down it would happily crank till the battery died but no spark till the stand was up (or switch removed).

Where would that be? What is it supposed to look like?

I’ve looked both sides of the bike and I can’t find any switches on either sides!

Yes it is. The hose/tube that I use is see-through/transparent and I see fuel going from the tank into the engine.

I just did a simple test to see if I get any sparks from the spark plug and I got nothing.

I did this test: https://youtu.be/69Km8qAKJ18

I reckon it’s my ignition coil. I’ve ordered one lastnight. I’ll see if that solves the issue.

Picture in the above link. Believe it or not it will be in the area of the sidestand.

Yep. I'd bet on the side stand switch first.

I’ve looked on the side stand and there’s no switch of any form there.

I’ve attached a picture of it.

I would be looking for more fuses. There should be a fuse box somewhere with more than one fuse. Hopefully plastic fuses too, most people gave up glass ones 30 years ago. Also a fuse on the starter relay, but that should be fine if it's cranking.

I would stick the battery on charge too. Sounds like it's a bit sluggish cranking for a 125 with a new battery.
