That is never going to happen though.

Until someone comes along and makes Newest Labour.

Keir already has the political positioning of Blair and look where that got him. The country as a whole has changed a lot. Blair basically rode the big economic growth of the 90s and then the dot come bubble from the US, a fair wind. Nicola Sturgeon is trying the "free everything" card even though most people seem to realise that Scotland cannot actually afford* even the current free stuff in a country with vast numbers of benefits claimants and drug addicts.

* Except for the nats, they have convinced themselves independent Scotland has infinite supplies of money and makes up 95% of UK GDP. We are just bitter about independence etc.

Starmer can't do Newest Labour, he's a credible leader especially compared to Corbyn but the Labour party has lost their way.

Boris delivered Brexit and appears to have delivered the vaccine rollour with great success at least when compared to how our "friends" in the EU have done.

Because of that Boris will win the next general election and after that has happened will be the time for Labour to dump Starmer for a leader who can create Newest Labour. The ideologies of Momentum have failed and won't be compatible with Newest Labour.

For all of that to play out, Starmer needs to keep their crash going because they need to crash out completely for Newest Labour to stand a chance of success.

In a convoluted way I think you are right. Labour have to totally crash and burn for a credible phoenix to rise from their ashes.

Because the Welsh know they can't do independence Plaid Cymru hasn't got the following the SNP have got in Scotland. Add in as a generality they wont vote Tory.

I think maybe you are right with your title premise. Without large industry, could it be that Labour have no reason to exist, and that's why they're floundering? Hunting around the woke ocean of detritus for something buoyant to grasp onto?

Time for a new opposition party with a new name and new philosophy perhaps.

Tribal voting. Crusties vote more than youngsters and they remember the miners strike and the couple of decades after of poverty and utter shitiness in the Valley's. Even people my age who where born during the strike and grew up in the Valley's won't forget the intentional lack of investment designed to break up and thin out left wing working class heartlands, it was a fucking ghetto and it was made that way on purpose. That gives them the South and will continue too for a long time too come.

Posh Wales and holiday home Wales votes Tory but their population and seat counts are low.

North West and mid West vote Plaid but the cave dwelling Gogs make up a low population and seat count.

Basically to win in Wales you need the (entire) Valleys and Cardiff + Swansea at each end. Chances of them being flipped are low. It actually creates the same problem as Westminster where you have one party overly dominant, so when the shit floats to the top it doesn't really cost them anything.

Czar Nichola is buying up spare fence panels that Trump didn't have time to erect.

But the border fence between England and Scotland will be to keep folk in.

2nd Highland Clearances are a coming.

You are harping on about Warrant Sales.

A different animal.

The High Heid Yins of the Tartan Tory Party will have all assets divvied up between themselves prior to this latest wave of 'Scottish Thrift'.

The replacement already exists. The hardline woke types should join the Greens and the metropolitan snobs should join the Lib Dems.

Labour in its present form is an irrelevance because its core voters don't exist any more in sufficient numbers to win anything at national level. My street is typical of this - the two houses with Labour placards in the garden are both owned by retired middle-class types with enough money to afford socialist principles. There is no bloc-vote from those working in primary industries any more.

A mate of mine who is a decent, hard-working chap and a Labour Councillor explained the Party's cunning plan. Say nothing so it can't be criticised, wait for the Tories to implode then reveal a magnificent country-saving manifesto shortly before the next general election and sweep to power on a wave of centre-left 'thank fuck for thatism'. This may still work...

I'd have thought getting 'influencers' to convince the kids that Labour is hip and happening would be the way to go. Labour could achieve this by paying said 'influencers' in anal bleach, tooth polishing and elocution lessons...

As for those of us who aren't influenced by these muppets, a little more though will be required. Getting rid of HS2 and free soapy tit-wanks from Jess Phillips could help...

Of course, then when deception, half truths and straight up fraud didn't work, out comes the always ready,

Straight out of the play book.

I think you're probably in need of that extra sunshine more than we in England are Wink
Ah, but I see you have given away Scotland's plan for affording independence: sell stuff that doesn't belong to you Laughing
Perhaps you could just sell stuff once we have worked out how much you were actually subsidised, and taking that figure off first of course. You might have enough for a can of Irn Bru each Smile
