I suspect I already know the answer to this, but would I be right in thinking that riding jeans (i.e. aramid lined or interwoven) are even slower than normal jeans to dry when they get wet, given they're a heavier fabric? I'm off on a tour this weekend and would prefer to wear jeans but the forecast is pretty appalling for some of the weekend so we're bound to get caught out in rubbish weather, so even with overtrousers I imagine they'd still get at least partially wet. Camping too so little opportunity to "properly" dry stuff once wet!

I dont go anywhere without my cheap black waterproof overtrousers. £10 and lasts a couple of years before they fall apart. Small enough to roll up and leave under the seat.

Yeah I do have overtrousers and obviously will put them on, but in my experience very little keeps out rain for more than a few hours. I have both some cheap-ish PPE overtrousers (which are well suited for motorcycling as they're quite tough) plus some outdoor gore-tex ones I use for walking, but neither will prevent rain for more than a few hours.

Take a cheap set of thin waterproofs and a base layer in addition to your other gear. If they get totally soaked, I've seen me put the base layer and waterproofs on UNDER the soggy bike jeans.

So from 2018 you've not considered or found waterproof bike clothing?

Are you a real biker or a Faerweather Faeiry?

Very Happy

Plastic trousers work at keeping rain out but over time you get wet from perspiration.
It cannot get through the plastic troos.

Waterproof breathable textile/leather is the solution.

Unless, that is, you are a Faerweather Faeiry. Wink

Every time I take my bike on a tour it fecking rains like God is angry!
I’ve tried all sorts of wet weather gear.
They ALL let in water eventually somewhere.

Nowadays I try and plan/avoid riding in the worst of the bad weather whenever possible.
What I have found is that spending big money on supa-Duda water proof kit is an expensive way of putting off the inevitable (wet).

I use cheapo plastic over trousers and gaiters like you use for hill walking.
I put on a pac-a-Mac under my bike jacket.

That along with a bit of planning keeps me dry’ish most of the time.

I ALWAYS take along a spare pair of gloves so one set can dry out whilst I’m wearing/using the other pair.

Not at all; I live near Manchester. Faerweather Faeiry mode around here would see a "biker" (sic) never actually leave the house. I usually wear "normal" textile trousers which are waterproof and breathable (although they do let water in after a few hours, although wearing overtrousers on top of them kept me dry on a 50 mile motorway journey in torrential rain). However, they're rubbish off the bike and don't offer a great deal of abrasion resistance compared with the jeans.

I like Stinkwheel's idea - it'd help dry out the jeans quickly too.

I'm on the cusp of changing my sig too, something along the lines of "I'm no Faerweather Faeiry me, look at my wet jeans" but I think it might be a bit too much for Ste Wub
