Brass knuckles and nails on your boots for filtering. Desert Eagles for higher speed.

20 years of driving a cage through London I look forward to vast lines of traffic Smile

Ironically the longer the line of traffic the more likely it is to be near static and I can filter past. Full face helmets are not recommended for safety it's to hide how smug you are when passing Laughing

i get no pleasure from filtering or overtaking endless rows of cars. its just a convenient option. i guess we are all different?.

for me its quiet roads and twisty bits. unfortunately they seem to be getting scarcer Sad

very early weekend mornings, and Sunday evenings, seem to be the only times this is remotely achievable.

This.

The weather might be nice but the roads are rammed and full of post lockdown idiots.

Pick a nice evening, it's light till almost 9.30pm. I like to go out after dinner around 7.00pm onwards when things have quietened down a bit. Home before the pubs kick out.

I started out doing this, then began favouring B-roads for ages. But this guy I know always takes the most obscure routes, avoiding anything with even the faintest whiff of markings down the middle. At first I thought it was deliberately awkward and plain annoying - but I got back into it and now am probably happiest doing that. You don't have to go slow either. Brisk feels fast, and although it's true you have to be on your mettle a bit more, that actually makes it more involving. More often than not, you get the best scenery too - and end up learning way more about your surrounding areas.

Another vote for B-roads and more obscure times to ride.

Early early morning on a B-road Thumbs Up
Mid week early on a B-road = even better.

For example, I went from just outside Norwich to Mundesley a couple of weeks ago using only B-roads.
Not a long ride or challenging , but an enjoyable ride Thumbs Up .

Being new to Norfolk now , I’ve got a whole load of new B-roads to explore.

I suppose it depends if you need to get from A to B or just out for a ride. 90% of the time I need to get somewhere so seeing traffic my first thought is "glad I didn't take the car!"

That being said sometimes the best journeys have been where I've either taken a wrong turn or a misguided attempt at a shortcut and got totally lost Very Happy Ending up on less than 'C' roads and picking a heading by the Sun!

Round here the main roads to Whitby/Scarborough are insane with slow traffic for miles, but it's like a normal busy fine weekend through the villages and such.
Yesterday it was surprising how quiet it became even by 8pm you could have easily parked on West Cliff but someone said they had been circling the town for nearly six hours through the day unable to find a space then went home. Laughing

Saw a few mates pics of the traffic and crowds on various media this morning and thought fuck it, and didn't even unlock the bike. I'll go for a ride after work tomorrow instead.

Part of yesterday's bimble took me on a favourite local road, the B6047 :-

https://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcycle-roads/united-kingdom/east-midlands/ride/b6047-market-harborough-melton-mowbray

Fairly quiet for a sunny weekend, but 3 speed cameras on the whole stretch. Luckily my fat arse on a 250 tends to keep things around the speed limit anyway. Only real traffic I came across was a classic car and bike show letting out near Oakham. The smell of unburnt fuel filled the air, wouldn't have fancied trying to light a fag Smile

This is how it used to be before everyone stayed at home because of 'covid'....

You've just got used to clearer roads, so it's somewhat of a culture shock seeing how many bloody cars are in this country when it's almost back to the same old traffic conditions....

Ride in Europe. It's bliss!

Or Scotland. Even better on a good day!
