What was that bike mag with the USP of featuring loads of concise, very accurate and objective reviews - I think it was in A5 format, and from the '80s.

I remember coming across on archive online, about 10 years ago and ended up ploughing through most of it, learning loads about bikes of that era. Think it might have all disappeared now though - but can't remember mag's name to Google properly.

UMG, famous for no punches pulled single paragraph motorcycle reviews.

From memory:

"The Honda CB185 is a motorcycle that will smoke, rattle and bang its way into the annals of history as a motorcycle worth forgetting. In the unlikely even you find one still running, do the decent thing and throw a match in the tank."

and "The Jawa 500 is a mongrel marriage of a rotax single and jurassic era 350 chassis. Strictly for terminally skint commuters and students. Buy almost anything else instead."

UMG, or UBG? Was UBG a rebrand, or a different mag?

https://picclick.co.uk/Used-Motorcycle-Guide-Magazine-January-1993-274791496327.html

I do remember it used to have some terse and pithy mini-reviews.

UBG was one of the toned-down, copycat publications that appeared once the UMG got popular. The bloke who owned UBG (Frank Westworth*) eventually ended up buying the UMG, at which point it became shite. He eventually sold the UMG to Moretons who closed it down a couple of years later.

* Westworth actually wrote an article in one of the early UMGs, so there's no denying where he got the idea from.
