I've lived in Spain, and I don't think it's a good model for emulation, when it comes to civic administration. I thought it was haphazard, bureaucratic, inefficient and excessively complex. They will probably improve a lot in the future, but for the moment I don't think the Spanish traffic laws, of all things, are anything to write home about.

Can't stand these nuisance vehicles.. Seem to be mostly ridden (illegally) by smug and indolent n'er do wells. How are they even on sale given that 99% of folk have no where to ride them?

This situation require legislation. They need to be registered and restricted to cycle paths only. some licencing and liability for penalty points might also rein in some of the current exuberance.

Bah!

Indeed. An advert appeared on TV the other night, think it was Currys, selling these. In tiny print at the bottom of the screen for the last few seconds of the advert it said something about must only be used on private land with the owner's permission. Really not surprising that loads go out and buy them and with so many swarming all over the cities, people just join the crowd assuming it's OK because others are doing it.

Quite - I've written to Halfords twice on this subject for the same reason.

Does anyone over the age of 18 work in/for Halfords? If not, they'll probably claim to be "entitled" to ride their e-scooters in "their" country (as if it belongs to them to do with as they please).

There's a bloke on the PEPIPOO forum who is very angry that his e scooter has just been seized and he has to go to the pound to collect it because the old bill saw him riding it on the road. They have tried to explain that he may be done for no insurance (6 points) but he is having none of it.

As the second page came up someone posted a link to his last e scooter run in asking why he was still riding after that time. That time he was flagged down by a woodentop, but because he was late for a meeting he decided not to stop for something unimportant (he had jumped a red light and gone onto the pavement he said). He was chased by police motorcycles, stopped and given a ticket for something then left to go on his way.

He is planning a defence on the grounds it isn't a motorised vehicle apparently.

Fucking 100% agree mate. I hate these. I've said it before but I got dusted by some cunt on one he was blazing on it past 50 mph while I was on my shite 125cc and I just couldn't compute the fact he could fuck past me, run the light, wear no fucking gear, need no fucking license and critically have no fucking insurance.

I am 100% against these things unless they get hammered down on regulatory wise like motorbikes do.

It's a forum which used to have lots of coppers / lawyers and useful people on it giving advice on defences to lots of things - but descended into the usual internet mongs spouting misinformation.

I sometimes give advice on there as an internet mong. I try not to get involved where people have been stung by one of my own schemes though, conflict of interest and all that.

Your time would be better spent writing to secretary for transport instead to get us some more reasonable changes to driving laws in general or do you have a load of shares from insurance companies? Razz

So?
How many kids have fallen off skateboards, bikes or rollerblades if anyone still wears those things. Treat these idiot news articles for what they are.

As they bloody well should.
You're looking at it the wrong way round.
Motorbike laws should be more in line with the more liberal European countries as our current ones came from EU directives.

Not many kids can go 50 - 60 mph on their skateboards or rollerblades though.

So, you're saying that motorcyclists shouldn't need to wear any safety gear, require no formal licensing and no insurance like I want e-scooters to require too?

Did you mean to log in as JackButler? Laughing

.

What does falling off a skateboard have to do with riding an electric scooter into a 3 year old and seriously injuring them? It's not like the 3 year old was riding the thing.

TBH, given the types I see riding these things a lot of the time, I have dubbed them "Looter scooters".

Last week I nearly parked two tons of Ford Explorer on a pair of young teenage girls who shot over a cross-road on one of those death traps.

For the victim of the hit and run via an untraceable motorised vehicle or the rider of said illegal vehicle?
