We all come on here and talk about where we’ve been, mostly good.

Occasionally we come across a place that is a big disappointment and we tell others on here.
Well today I have been to such a place.

The Motorcycle Museum in North Walsham , Norfolk. Sad
£5 to get in and about ten minutes looking at dirty uncared for scrap!
Most of the bikes had spider shit and birds muck on them Shocked
I’d say at least 80% of the bikes were broken/unrepaired/parts missing.
If rust was money, they’d all be rich in there.

The old skinny bald bloke who took my entry money, had the charm of a broken gate post Confused .
It’s more like a breakers yard than a museum.

So where have you lot been to that you would not go back to and not recommend to others?

Blackpool.

From stepping out the car into a howling gale with sideways rain .... to the shit B&B my company put me up in.

The place stank and looked like hell.

Never ever again.

I’ve never been but I recall browsing the tourist leaflets and finding a pencil museum up north which boasted the World’s second largest pencil. I imagine they once had the first but lost the crown to some upstart.

Stonehenge - a lot smaller than I expected.
(That's what she said Razz )
Avebury up the road was more interesting and you could actually get close to it.

Not to put too fine a point on it, perhaps we should let others draw their own conclusions.

Out of interest, when did "That's what she said" replace "As the actress said to the bishop"?
It's obviously an age thing...

Back before they ruined the site, the shop there used to sell nice rock cakes. Really.

I'd imagine most people who visit Fort William find it an enourmously underwhelming experience.

At best. Frustrating place, I wish they'd build a bypass but road but then it would probably die off.

They'd also have to tunnel through Ben Nevis.

From the M74, it takes half an hour longer and an extra 30 miles to go to Spean Bridge via Dalwhinnie and Laggan.

I had never seen Buckingham Palace until a few years ago. I was on my way to some meeting by tube and the station was near it so I decided to have a quick look. It looks huge on the television but to me it seemed very small in real life (front elevation only I'm talking about).

On the other hand, as someone mentioned Stonehenge earlier, I always think that looks bigger than I expected whenever I go past it.

It's a known problem with pencils, they get shorter with use.

Back on topic; generally I have pretty realistic expectations of places, but a few that have caught me by surprise include Cambridge (felt a bit run down - I was there on a pub crawl day trip so wandered lots of streets, maybe the wrong ones?) and Bristol (although this was probably my lack of knowledge of the place).

Funnily enough I don't have a strong opinion on Blackpool, but that's probably because I know what it's like so expect that level. I went there for my 21st many moons ago. It was an experience. Shame the Syndicate has gone . . . when you're new to the place, are pretty tanked up on booze and are trying to work out why your mates keep vanishing for a few minutes then reappear . . . revolving dancefloor as it turns out.

Edit; oh and Perpignan; I genuinely had the impression it'd be the classy French Mediterranean city one would expect, but other than some excessively smart shopping streets in the centre, the rest of the place felt like what I imagine the rougher suburbs of LA are like. Burnt out cars, dodgy groups etc. etc. - I'd rather take my chances in Moss Side.

Yeah, bad vibe. They "welcome" tourists but just because of their money. I got the overwhelming impression they actively resent tourists. They'd rather you just emptied your wallet into a big bucket in the airport and fucked off again, leaving them free to sit about on deckchairs on the street doing fuck-all all day.

Bad vibe place for me is Ross-on-Wye. I'm not a particularly superstisious person but first time I went, I checked into a campsite, pitched my tent and was overcome with a feeling I shouldn't stay there. To the extent I packed up my tent and got out of town. Happily checked into one of the nicest youth hostels I've ever stayed in down the road (going there again for my Summer holiday).

The second time I was in a capark in the town centre dropping the wheels out of my bike to get new tyres fitted and landed up spending my afternoon performing first aid on a pissed up tramp who'd been knocked out in a fight.

I shan't go again.

Tahoe / lake Tahoe was that for us. It was the most unwelcoming overpriced place we've been to date.

You can't actually get to the lake without paying for either the 'beach' charge ( a small section is behind railings) or you need to know one of the owners of the beachfront properties.

Never been less impressed with a place.

We stuck it out for 2 hours and cancelled the hotel and naffed off somewhere far more welcome / picturesque.

Rome.

Maybe it was because it was the height of summer and peak tourist season but:

1. Fucking stank, worse smelling than Venice,

2. Fucking dirty, easily the dirtiest city I've been to in the whole world and that includes some piss poor places in Cuba and Venezuela. Litter everywhere and a fucking dust bowl,

3. Fucking expensive, eating out was expensive and generally fucking sub-par. Went to a restaurant and the waiter said they do pasta better than any restaurant in the whole of the UK. Got a spaghetti carbonara and it was mid as fuck,

4. Fucking crowded, everywhere was jumping with tourists and a load of Africans with their "just for you, my special friend, very good price" generic tat,

5. Fucking boring, you can go to the Sistine Chapel, the Trevi fountain and the Colosseum all in the same day and congratulations you've seen everything of note that Rome has to offer.

Stop!

There is a home bakers on the Main Street that sell the best pies and sausage rolls ever.

At the Square near the Museum.

(Not visited the Museum yet.)

Good thing: The have fitted Stainless Steel Points on the edges of the street furniture at the square so wankers can't destroy that stuff with their Ska-Gay-teboards. Whankers.

Most disappointing place?

Malaig Ferry port, when the man told us we could not squeeze our motorbikes up the side of the cars on the ferry like we always did in the past. (A Sturgeon-SNP-ism.)
