Has anyone done an online speed awareness course recently?

I've sadly been caught out in my car and been offered a SAC online, I wondered how people have found them - I think they're about 2-3hours long.

Also, it says I have until 11/11/21 to do the course - wouldn't it be beneficial to me to wait till the last minute to do the course? That way I wouldn't need to inform my insurance until then and at least I'd miss a possible increase for a few months.

(I have done a bit of research, and apparently whilst I don't 'have' to tell my insurance, it is beneficial to do so to stop them pulling a fast one in the event of a claim. I also gather some insurance companies won't increase the costs, but others do).

(7 year gap), BMW F650 (Relaxing ride). Aprilia Caponord ETV1000 (Big and bold). Yamaha FZS600 (got me in trouble too quick!).
Current: Yamaha TDM 900 (Comfy, light but big, power when needed).

My misses had to do one.

It was a joke.

2 hours.

I heard it going on in the background while working from home. It was like a episode of "mongs say the craziest $hit"... embarrassing....

Most of it was run by a moderator whose spent her time trying to make sure there was an adequate connection to the rest of the group.

You have grown adults attempting it on a 20 year old phone, child's laptop or modem with a dial up.

Unless the insurance company asks the specific question on SA, I'm not sure your obliged to offer it up , are you ?

Probably no loading for one SP30/SP50 etc..

Two questions for you:

1. Why were you speeding? Mad

2. Why did you get caught? Very Happy

Soon as you get two the insurer will pump you on premiums. It's not horrible but if you have multi vehicle policies you get pumped on each one. Rolling Eyes

Not online, but I did one a few years ago. The course itself was just awful, nothing in there about how "speed kills".

The sobering thing was the number of total idiots on the course with me, people who I would be sharing the roads with in my local area. Only about 60% of the people on the course knew that the national speed limit was 70, for instance. A couple of people were worryingly impressed that I had managed to master a manual gearbox.

1. I drive to the road conditions, always have, always will. Perfectly safe to do 70 in a 60 on a quiet evening, on a dry straight, flat Norfolk A road in daylight.
2. I thought the average speed camera section had ended! Rolling Eyes

That's my first speeding 'offence' in 28 years of driving/riding - I've never been in an accident that was my fault, so I'm changing nothing.
(Apart from maybe taking my eye of the road more to watch for cameras in future...)

You know how stupid the average person is? Well, half the population are thicker than that.

Do the SAC.

Even though a the speeding thing is a contentious issue. The arguments against have substantial merit.
Based on science and human psychology.

I'd take the points and fine any day over a SAC. Never done one and never will.

If they don't ask then there's no need to tell them. Thumbs Up

I quite enjoyed mine. It did demonstrate that the only people with any sense of awareness are motorcyclists and commercial drivers. Joe Public is worryingly unaware of anything beyond the windscreen and really shouldn't be allowed to use our roads.

Not to mention Johnny Foreigner (mostly from the muddle east/Armenia et al). Wink
