Y.I.S.S - Removal

Hi Guys,

So i'm due to upgrade from my FZ6 to an FZ1 tomorrow - the bike shop have just called to say the alarm immobiliser is ****ed and keeps going off so they're going to rip it out. It means the bike won't have any security on it. They said it was the Y.I.S.S but also said it was aftermarket - could someone please shed some light on this? Will it make a huge difference and do you think it would affect the buy price? it's a Fazer 1000 2003, 27k miles and in excellent condition apart form that.

If the bike you're buying has an aftermarket alarm, they're doing you a favour by taking it out. If it drains the battery or keeps going off, or worse, locks the ignition out so you can't start it even with a fob, then the only person not able to use the bike is you, and not the three big blokes in a van who can still nick it.

haha, thanks - well I suppose that's true. But does this bike not come with Y.I.S.S by standard? I can't find much online to verify...

YISS can be bypassed with a sub-loom that has been modified, if they were so inclined anyway.

I wouldn't buy it personally, its a 2003 bike with electrical issues, I foresee a lovely future with the RAC.

Might be a deeper investigation. An alarm from 2003 will almost certainly have a knackered internal battery by now and will be causing some hassle. Had a Meta Alarm on my old 2003 FZS600 with a duff battery. I just bought a replacement box for £125, quick-swap over and bingo, a fully working alarm and an immobiliser again.

FWIW Abacas Alarms were really good in helping me diagnose stuff and pointing out the correct replacement.

As pointed out, a genuine YISS alarm wasn't on that model, and that shop obviously has dubious expertise in alarms, yet you're considering letting them rip a shit tonne of alarm wiring off the bike...

I've had three Yamahas since 2009 all new and all have had the YISS system as standard fitting
