im averaging about 56mpg. i guess i ride far too slow Laughing
the tank holds 19ltrs, so about 230 mile range.
no bad for a litre bike i guess?

are modern bikes better or worse? do all the euro regs cock things up?
they certainly did with diesel cars Crying or Very sad

According to Fuelly (yeah, I'm that boring) my 1250 Bandit has averaged 44mpg over 20k miles.

With a best of 55mpg with gentle(ish) touring and a worst of 39mpg during London (hectic) commuting.

That said, I never try for economy nor do I thrash. I generally aim to make smooth, rapid "Progress".

I get between 40-45 mpg which gives me a range of about 250-280 miles.

Gsxr 1000 low 30's to the gallon, can manage mid 40's but bollocks to riding it like that. Usually looking for a petrol station at about 120 miles.

The trials Enfields vary between 40 to 50 mpg but thats because they get hammered and the engines are not stock. On the 350 thats about 120-150 miles. On the 535 with the pissy little tank 70 miles at best. If the 350 was stock i think it would do 80+ mpg so around 240 miles between fills.

The Enfield 535gt even ridden hard rarely gets under 70mpg, 80+ is easily achievable. I usually look to fill up around 150 miles and its far from empty. I reckon if you really tried you could do 100mpg on this bike.

85mpg, 300 miles on my Honda CB500x. Mainly riding A and B roads.
It started off at 80mpg but keeps rising as I get smoother, holding more speed into corners.

My VFR, despite supposedly being thirsty, averages around 55mpg (according to the display anyway, but it seems about right). I have seen it as low as in the 20s (seriously busy urban traffic) but never above 60mpg. Generally only gets used in the sticks so rarely spends any time stationary / slow traffic. 21 litre tank means I can get around 200 miles between fill-ups, but I prefer to leave it at least half full most of the time so if I decide to go out for an evening ride at short notice, I don't have to faff about finding a petrol station.

The C90 is too recently acquired to know for sure, but I did cover around 70 miles on 2 litres of fuel. The tank is under 4 litres and I'm still getting my head around the fuel guage accuracy, but general consensus is 80 miles is a "safe" range on the C90 (assuming a more realistic "average" mpg). Looking at small fuel containers I can carry on the bike . . .

Zontes ZT 125-U

My little 125cc has a 12.5L tank and depending on what I did with it, where I went and how I rode it I get anywhere between 190 miles (68 mpg) to 280 miles (101 mpg) out a tank.

Also bear in mind I am a 24 stone (152 kg) guy, so someone half my weight would probably get way better fuel economy and performance.

The little 125cc can get me up to 60mph without issue, I think someone lighter would have no problems breezing the lofty heights of 70mph.

v-reg zx9r: mpg guessing 40-45, on a mix of back lanes (30%), unclassified marked roads / B-roads (30%), A-roads (20%) and town (20%). With this sort of riding, and depending on how "enthusiastic" I've been, range is about 160, but I'm getting anxious at 150 and getting ready to start groping for reserve. Reckon in summer, if it's not too hot, I'll spend about £50 a week on fuel, easy.

VFR1200 gets around 38mpg at the moment, mainly A and B roads. Albeit I do keep it in 2nd and 3rd most of the time as it doesn't like lugging on corners.
CBF500 gets around 60mpg on similar roads.
K1300 used to get (indicated as the only one with a computer) 60mpg in the 50mph speed camera zone on the A34. Otherwise high 40s regardless of how hard it was ridden.
Worst I've got was on my old Tuono which was roughly 25mpg and I wasn't riding it particularly fast. Major reason why I sold it tbh.

Given that i never rode the VFR ..... Very Happy All i did was tart it up as a project , fit a lairy can and then move it on.

It deffo sounded better than the Z does even with a full exhaust, headers and decat. Maybe i just don't care for the noise of an IL4.

A modern EFI bike that has a closed-loop mode will be very efficient at cruising on long runs compared to older bikes. Most of the emissions stuff revolves around "sailing close to the wind" with regards to leaning out the fuel mixture.

<addendum> 75mpg on a long run

My old Street Twin used to manage mid 80s to the gallon on a run, even with panniers on. Despite a tiny tank, this gave it a 200-ish mile range.

Nah, dunno about mpg, havent bothered to work that out.

I just know that "around town" (i.e., in London traffic) I can get approximately 100 miles out of the Sportster tank (small). So I reset the trip meter every time I fill the tank. I know this because I once managed to run out JUST as I was about to pull onto Tower Bridge. Luckily I always keep "reserve" in reserve, so I had enough to get to a gas station in Bermondsey.

But if out on long trips, I have managed to drag it out to 120 miles(ish) before piking out and dropping into a gas station Laughing

Being a dyed-in-the-wool townie, I'm always nervous about running out of gas in the middle of bloody nowhere. I'd probably just sit by the road and cry until someone came past Laughing

Mind you, these days I could call out the Stonehenge consort if I got stranded halfway across Salisbury Plain Thinking ... but I know where all the gas stations are on the A303 now anyway all the way down to Shaftesbury, at least Laughing ... anywhere else in the countryside, I tend towards extreme anxiety and rarely let it get beyond 100 miles.

55 mpg on my R1200RS.

Does anyone else find it odd that everyone in the UK refers to their fuel consumption in miles per gallon, despite the fact that nobody in the UK has bought petrol in gallons since 1994?

Brits. Rolling Eyes

Imperial units innit. Otherwise we'd be back into mixing our units if we quoted miles per litre. So the metric would be litres per 100km. I really don't like that. No more than I like the idea of miles per pint, but they don't sell petrol by the pint either (apart from in some slightly lower quality pubs I know).

My old 954 Blade had an annoying hybrid economy measure on the dash. Choice between miles per litre or kilometres per litre... useless.

My CBF1000 averages around 43mpg and I tend to fill up around 150 miles. However that's a mix of slow urban and very fast motorway. When touring long distance I get nearer 55mpg and comfortably top 200 miles.

My CBR600 averages 47 miles per decade so economy is a bit hard to judge. Carburettors still on the bench at the moment. Embarassed
