Not really gear grinding, just ... duh!
Anita phoned me this morning so, on account of things being a bit on-tenterhooks Down Under, I picked up the call.

But no! Everybody is apparently still alive.
However, Anita has lost her car in the carpark at Westfield Laughing
So she calls her mother. 10,000 miles away, haha.

I suggested she try to remember the first shops she saw when she surfaced from the carpark, and then work back from there. Luckily it worked, and she had been two floors down from where she thought.

I'd mutter about how could someone so bright and smart could be such an air-head but ... it would be hypocritical at the very least Shifty

I used to regard McDonalds as a terrible food to be eaten in emergency only but then an ex girlfriend introduced me to their (at that stage) new wraps. I enjoyed them, and upped my consumption to occasional. Well done to McDonalds in Kidderminster, my choice today was terrible. The chicken was sloppy, soggy and blatantly full of water. Back to the 2 yearly visits when stranded for me I think!

I always found Burger King to be a bit better. Not saying they're great, but a little more palatable imo.

Totally agree - however their food is all presented in sesame seed topped bread cakes - I’m allergic. Not ideal! I actually prefer KFC buckets (without the devil seed!)!

I don't like Those Fast food spunk bucket places.
McDonald's is biggest and it baffles the mind why the sheep flock to it. Old McDonald had a plan...

I never visit those outlets that only have a few tables and run by Indians after the Mrs. and I fancied a Macy Dees far our tea one weekend we were visiting That London.
The whole meal was slop.
Luckily they had a KFC across The road so I hedged my bet and got us some of that too.

The McDonald's went in the bin.
The KFC was edible.

The last McDonald's I got is the last McDonald's that I will ever eat. Ever.
In the town where I live. Cold, tasteless and the fries (fukin chips) tasted funny/funky.

I think they wash the burger meat to remove all the flavour. Shocked

Parents on the radio today complaining that childcare costs are higher than their pay. Something must be done, government should give them money.

At no point was the probably unpopular but quietly widely held oppinion mentioned that having children is this day and age is a lifestyle choice and there is a limit to which those who did not make that choice should be expected to fund it. I already provide those children with a world class education and healthcare and provide you with maternity pay and family allowance.

Also. If your childcare costs are higher than your wage. Congratulations, enjoy your new job as a full time carer for your children. It is not economically viable, or even sensible to subsidise someone to do a job where over 100% of the pay is going to childcare. Sack in the job, look after the kid you presumably wanted.

Agree. Someone on another thread referred to ‘replacement migration’ as a means by which developed countries can address problems arising from their ageing demographic. Encouraging increased fertility rates through financial support for parents is another way, and parents are expecting more and more of it.

...this is the end result of feminism, and I say that factually without really caring either way. It's exactly because everyone expects to have someone else look after their kids while they go to work, that there is such a demand for childcare, so they genuinely have created the problem themselves.

I had this convo with a relative who was paying virtually all their salary towards part-time childcare. It turned out they wanted a break from their kid Laughing

Twas probably me Shifty In the context that the UN see it as a 'solution', even though to me it seems more like a pyramid scheme, as those who you import with access to our healthcare etc.. are presumably also going to live a long time. Then we just import even more right?

Hungary already do and it has worked, I doubt it would work here* as minority groups already have large families, and I don't think most British families want 4 kids.

*I realise we have child benefit but it isn't an explicit financial incentive (eg: breed for gibs), and I believe now they cap benefits at two children...

Gears ground repeatedly by my flippin' sister. She manipulates my elderly parents and puts them under so much strain, using emotional blackmail to hoodwink them into doing her bidding (usually childcare related). If I try intervene she goes beserk saying it's none of my business, hangs up and blocks my 'phone. She's so utterly selfish it's untrue. Her husband's parents are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard which makes matters worse. I can see my parents being ground into an early grave at this rate but they don't seem to be able to stand up to her. It's a pretty horrible feeling of helplessness, almost like watching torture from behind bars. Sad

Families don't need to have 4 to increase the population, only 3.

For much of the 60s and 70s the average was 2.4 children which is still enough to increase the population.

I was referencing Hungary's scheme: 'Hungarian women with four children or more will be exempted for life from paying income tax'.

Note they're telling everyone to only have 2 kids due to climate change...
Prince Harry told British Vogue in 2019 that he and Meghan Markle would have two children maximum. Harry said it was an environmental choice

Got an email from Amazon saying their Prime charges were going up, and I wondered why they were telling me since I don’t have Amazon Prime. I suspected a phishing scam so I ignored it, although it did look proper. Later I read some news items about it and when I logged on to Amazon I discovered I’d been a member for almost a year at a cost of £79. I don’t recall signing up. Cheeky sods, I’ve now cancelled.

Amazon always push prime when you're ordering something, you have to be really careful to choose not to sign-up. They also pre-select the more expensive delivery option after you avoid that pitfall Rolling Eyes

If you have any Amazon products you can sign up to Prime by just clicking through content... without entering your password. Amazon are cnuts, even if I am on a prime trial currently, ordered something yesterday at midday and it was here that evening Razz

Having to spend from 02.00-10.00 today ferrying my eldest numpty from home to A&E in Halifax to Bradford plastic surgery clinic and home because he fell through a neighbour's cold-frame dressed as Kim Jong-Un last night. You couldn't make it up! Shocked

What was growing under the cold frame?

Came home after doing the 'Otley Run' which is an all-day and night piss-up in fancy dress. The taxi parked outside our neighbour's house, and in his inebriated state he went up the wrong drive, tripped over a pile of bricks and landed hand first in a cold-frame. Cut his face plus severed a tendon in his left hand. I can only assume that he had his phone in his right hand as it was found in the neighbour's garden the following morning. When the neighbour got up and saw all the blood he called the plod, thinking that there had been a stabbing or similar. Plod followed the trail back to ours... He has an opp in Bradford today to hopefully repair the tendon. Rolling Eyes

Aha.. as a former student in the city I am familiar with BRI and a similar sounding outing on the Leeds Road.. we finished in The Crown on Ivygate - famous for its 'exotic dancers' back in the day.

Ward 20 - the ward of the inebriated fool...

When I was a lad it used to be the Tetley Pub Hunt which would begin at the top end of the Westgate Run in Wakefield and finish once 20 halves of the brown nectar had been consumed, one half per pub. I can't be too critical of my lad because one year I ended up projectile vomiting from the top of the Black Rock toilet steps to the bottom (if you know the pub, you'll appreciate the feat), on others kipping in cabbage fields etc. Never fell through glass dressed as a North Korean despot though... Laughing Laughing Laughing

Me making a mistake. Last night I thought down stairs door was being kicked in, such a racket. Turned out the noise was from the boiler in my flat. It sounded like it was going to detonate. Turns out I’d overfilled it when the pressure was low and left the fill taps open.

Had to drain a bowl full out of the boiler via drain screw, silly mistake.

The Cost of Living Crisis. Energy bill just pulled the rug from under my feet, £10 to last till the 15th of the month.
In years to come we must remember that this wasn't caused by climate change, Covid, racism etc. It was caused by people and their stupidity.
