Well. Very old counting systems used in the UK go up to 20, but do seem to be closer to base 5 than base 10. The one local to me goes.

Yan, Taen, Tedderte, Medderte, Pimp, Haata, Slaata, Lowra, Dowra, Dick, Yan-a-Dick, Taen-a-Dick, Tedder-a-Dick, Medder-a-Dick, Mimph, Yan-a-Mimph, Taen-a-Mimph, Tedder-a-Mimph, Medder-a-Mimph, Gigget.

It is still (rarely) used for counting sheep.

8 and 9 (in decimal) still exist under base 8, they are just represented as 10 and 11.

Their intrinsic value still remains the same.
