I have a Yamaha YZF 600R Thundercat from 1996, and I have a problem with the Rpm reader.

When I turn the key on, the pointer rises to 8,000 Rpm and then comes to 0 Rpm, and so on.

When I turn on the engine, the pointer rises to 8,000 Rpm, then comes to the effective rotation of the engine, and then returns to 0 Rpm, and so on.

Does anyone know what the possible problem is?

Thank you.

Did the clocks normally do a full sweep of the gauges when they first get power? Sounds like a bad earth (possibly within the gauges itself).

No. The bike's still a carburetor. When I turn on the key, it doesn't scan. She started having this problem recently.

The bike works normally, but the rpm dial pointer is the one that oscillates.

So is it driven by a physical connection from the gearbox or electric?

If physical, replace the cable.

If electric, there should be 3 wires to it.

1) Earth
2) 12v reference current
3) actual variable voltage that changes depending from close to 0 to 12v, depending on the engine speed.

A quick google search Rolling Eyes

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=143077

In fact you could go as far as:

tl;dr it is an error code.

Yep - fuel level sender error. The connector under the tank could be disconnected or corroded, or the bulb in the dash could be gone. Safe to ride as it is but you won’t know when the fuel level gets low.

Actually, some time ago, I had a break in the fuel filter and dripped up the wiring under neath the tank.

I have to disconnect the connectors, clean them, turn them back on and then test.

And effectively the fuel reserve warning stop working. I figured it out the hard way. I was on foot on the road Smile

I have to test to see if it solves the problem, in this case, the problems.

Thank you so much for your help.

I want to thank you for the tips you gave me.

The problem is solved.

I got along with shoemakers instead of mechanics, and that's what happened.

These problems occurred after I took my bike to the mechanic to replace the fuel filter and do the maintenance leftover.

After the tips they gave me, I disassembled the part of the tank to gain access to the electrical wiring, and found that the connection of the fuel warning system was disconnected.

As if that's not enough, I noticed that I also had the connecting tube to the air filter box disconnected.

A very bad mechanical service.

I don't know anything about mechanics, but just looking at the wiring and the tubes I checked as soon as they were disconnected.

Once again, thanks for the tips, which avoided me a new trip to the workshop and made me save a few euros.
