Madam I like your style. That was the kind of weekend I did in my 20s between serious relationships and before kids. Big respect to you for still keeping it up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

It was a lot of fun.

The last rally I went to was the Bulldog in about 2006 Rolling Eyes
(not sure when actually ...it was the year before Gerry was shot Crying or Very sad I think, I don't remember wanting to go after that )

Oh wait ... there was that mad party with a military bike club, somewhere near Lakenheath last year where I slept on the ground in a tent with some RAF type who chundered in his sleep Laughing I was so cold I put my feet into the arms of his fleecy jacket, stole his sleeping bag while he was mopping up chunder, and used all his military kit to rest my head on.

After that, I swore I would never camp again, and now look at what I've gone and done Laughing

I keep forgetting I'm old.
I keep thinking I'm still only 37 Rolling Eyes

Oooo dear! Shocked
How unpleasant.

I was certainly considering a basically similar process, but perhaps not quite so aggressive, and definitely without salt. Laughing

Erm, from the sounds of a particular story that Stinkers likes to tell about military types, I think you are most likely wrong.....

Look.
We're talking about a gender who think themselves hilarious when they inflict dutch ovens on an innocently-sleeping girl, so it wouldnt surprise me then if they're bound to imagine they might be successful with a dirty sanchez.

1) that explains spending the nights by the firepit rather than sleeping

2) calling yourself a girl is a bit optimistic....

1. More to do with the interesting-looking people around the fire. At one point I was having a conversation with a very nice girl half my age, who saves her dead hamsters in the freezer to feed to her snake. Then I ended up being the last one there with some guy who fell asleep and I was worried he would pitch forward into the fire pit and impale himself through the forehead on the huge piece of wood. Health and safety police had all gone to bed, lightweights. Nobody else seemed to be bothered Laughing Luckily some 1%ers were lurking about in the marquee and eventually came out to relieve me of the responsibility, so I ended up chatting to the scariest looking one of them Laughing till, erm, breakfast time. Not done that for years.

2. It may be optimistic, but who fucking cares what anybody else thinks.

when I cycled home last night on an unlit track on my mountain bike with thousands of lumeens on the bars and crash helmet, I happened upon a youth on a shopper bike wit no lights, I was so worried he would impale himself on some of the bollards and fences along the way I stayed just behind him for 2 miles to light his way Laughing

So my dog's vet closed a couple of months ago and he was transferred to a vets practice in Stevenage.
It's a bit of a poke for me to go there distance wise plus Stevenage is to be avoided if at all possible.
At the time I called the nearest other vet I could think of but they had no spaces available but told me they'd put me on the waiting list.
Today I got a call saying I could register the doggo.

Which was nice.

Some people did that for me once, wayyyyy back when I was an utter noob. I went down to Eastleigh (from Fulham) on my 125 for a girlie mate's birthday. Only had the bike about two months, barely had my CBT 6 months.

On the way down it was sunny and bright, but on the way back it was snowy, I slid off and bent [handlebars/something/dunno] in Twyford, and had to get my mate Tigger Alldus to ring his pal in Winchester, who came out (in 3" of snow) and straightened [handlebars/whatevs] and then I continued on.

It was terrible. Slush, snow, terrible traffic up the A31, and I was terrified of slipping off again. It took me six hours (including waiting time in Twyford) to get 3/4 of the way up the A31, and I got to just before Guildford, when a couple came up behind me and said that my headlight was out so bless'em, they rode for about 6 miles behind me along the A31 to Guildford, where I chained the fucker up and was going to take the train ... and then for some reason I decided to move it, so I switched the bike on, and the headlights worked. So I got back on. Of course.

Took me another two hours to get home from there, even though it was the A3, which I knew well ... I was so frozen that even after I got home, I was still shivering in my own bed for HOURS afterwards.

Laughing

It looked ancient, like the sort of generic non-branded bikes in the Littlewoods catalgoues from the 80s. No way was it stolen, it was that naff Laughing

Being an urchin I was the last kid in the street to get a bicycle, it being noticed that I was the only one scootering in the cul-de-sac pathway peloton. This was in the days when streets were full of children playing. Mum and Dad got me a surprise Raleigh roadster via the local rag’s classified ads but the previous buyer had sawn the crossbar off so his daughter could ride it. It was now “a girl’s bike” Sad and this was the ‘70s. Imagine. So, one Christmas I asked for an unspecified new bike and I got a Dawes Kingpin (“shopping bike”), which I liked, but I was entering my teens and this still wasn’t giving off the required vibe. Sometime later I got a Dawes Galaxy (“sports-touring”?), which was cool. When I got my first job post-schooling I bought a Carlton Pro-Am 12-speed which I still have, but I no longer have the vigour to power it as it should be ridden. Thing of beauty though.

I want an old Peugeot concorde, or elite, as I had one as a kid. Seen a few too scruffy Peugeots about, and seen a few that are too good spec, I just want the one I had as a teen Laughing

Dawes Galaxy along with a Raleigh Lenton remain objects of desire.

I have a Peugeot Premiere in my shed i bought at auction years - cos it was cheap..(30 quid IIRC) One day I'll use it on the road..

Names to conjure with for blokes of a certain age. I had a BSA 'Tour of Britain' as a kid and I thought I was the bollocks! In reality it was a heavy old slug out of the catalogue but it was what my folks could afford and I loved it Very Happy

I really wanted a yellow-framed Eddy Merckx, as they were pushbike porn back when I was young.
