You need to have results in to seperate settings so your results in front of the wife won't result in a diagnosis.

By the way, the no 2 was diagnosed as well, but he manages without medication. We never pursued it when he was younger on account of the fact he wasn't being threatened with being exclusion from school every other week and he's decided now he's older he doesn't want to start on it as he has ways of managing.

A product of modern living? ADHD, asthma, allergies... heck even dyslexia was only just becoming a thing when I was a kid. On the other hand you can go with previously undiagnosed and there's a gazillion things we know now that no one a century before would have a clue about Thinking

No, because their grandfather admitted that he was in trouble and getting the cane literally daily at school. This is the same pattern that the Little Bastard was following abet with regular exclusions rather than summary beatings. He, however, won't accept that there's a genetic element because then he'll have to admit that ADHD is real.

People like you and him who 'think' they know what is what make it harder for those of us that have to deal with it on a day to day basis and I really would like your ilk to fucking shut the fuck up some times.

The thing is, ADHD has to be disagnosed by a specialist and the drugs for it are controlled so its a high bar to get them, unlike the drugs for anxiety (SSRIs) which seem to be given out like sweeties so I suspect you are talking bollocks again.

Few hundred pounds get a diagnosis privately.

A diagnosis from a specialist is basically a list of boxes they tick.

Here's a nice episode of panorama where they show just how high the bar is. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001m0f9

As if the average uni student is going to spend 500 quid and then private prescriptions until discharged to their GP.

I was diagnosed privately. It was not a quick or cheap process.

To be fair, I didn't go in looking for an ADHD diagnosis, I didn't know what it was. Several years of therapy and experimentation to nail down the particular issues and suitable medication or other management methods.

I fully agree with Nobby on the sentiment of people who don't know anything, shutting up.

As with so many "new" things, finally recognising the issue and providing diagnosis (or legalising it) causes a sudden and exponential-looking increase in cases. This then quickly levels out at a small percentage of the population. It happened with homosexuality in the 70s and 80s, depression in the 90s -2010s, and how neurodiverse conditions and gender identity.

Just to be clear, I don't have ADHD. When I say I have to deal with it I mean having to get a 8 year old to take medication when his mother and grandparents refuse to accept it's an issue.

People going 'Oh, iTs' tHe CURrent TreNdY dIAGnoSIs' Are ignorant beyond belief. 30 years ago people didn't accept that Dislexia was a thing.

To do your own fucking research on this you need to have gone through medical school, become a specialist, and probably have a couple of PhDs.

What you actually mean is 'trawl through crap on the internet until you find the quackery that best fits your preconceived world-view and then proclaim that this is correct.'

When I said privately I should have been more specific as I was meaning private ADHD clinics where as much as they're selling the assessments, it's almost a foregone conclusion that the customer / patient will receive a diagnosis of ADHD along with a prescription.

One thing that is noticeable when looking around online at private ADHD clinics is that the prices range from a few hundred to upwards of a grand.

That's not the case in the UK for patients to get a diagnosis of ADHD.

No problem, can you list out all the topics people are allowed to talk about without accreditation please? For example, I have no formal education in restoring old motorbikes and have gained some of my knowledge by "trawling through crap on the internet" as you put it. Shall I keep it to myself from now on?

Theres a big difference between arguing about the best tool to remove a flanged sprocket and pronouncing that ADHD is made up bollocks.

Indeed. But I have seen people lose their shit when you disparage their choice of two-wheeled carriage so the difference is sometimes not the chasm it should be.

As to arguing ADHD is entirely made up surely you can just cite any of the research or hold up a copy of DSM5 and tap it politely?

It's the sacred cow of BCF.

You get the full gamut on here.

BPD
Manic
Depressive
Autistic
Dyspraxic
ADHD

etc.

Never learned a thing from the likes of Harley boy or Nobby tbh.

I don't go there because, as I say, it's a sacred cow.

Can't be that many to choose from.

5 or 6 active users, subtract the ones that have a Harley and haven't commented on your busywork project.

No, the Robby.

The whole of the Workshop is currently on tenterhooks waiting for him to give his permission for a dude to fix his clutch. He's the guy who knows! Always.

Yep, my girlfriend convinced herself she had ADHD after seeing loads of videos on instagram about it and then went and got herself a online diagnosis. The assessment must have been under an hour and of course she came out of it with them telling her she had it. ADHD is a real thing but every zoomer out there thinks they have it.

I have dyslexia and the same thing is happening for that. I had to redo my diagnosis to get the benefits in university and it took a few hours of various in person tests, but now people are just paying for a quick skype call if they think they have it.

I saw some research on a dyslexic-friendly font, something like https://opendyslexic.org/. Does it make any difference?
