Haynes manuals have always got me by most of the time.
A couple of time I’ve had the original workshop/service manual and they can be complicated.

I’d love a Haynes type manual for my Hyosung GT250R , but can I find one? can I bollox Evil or Very Mad , oh well!

OEM assume you know lots
Haynes and Clymer are OK

I preferr OEM these days because they are very comprehensive. However they only tell you what to do, not how to do it.

Of the others. As I recall, clymer tend to have colour wiring diagrams which makes life easier.

About 30 years ago haynes manuals really dumbed down. before that they were 'really' comprehensive.

This was the point when the 'spanner guide' was introduced with the number of spanners highlighted the difficulty.

I wouldn't consider a Haynes manual to be a 'workshop manual' in that sense, I would only consider OEM to be a 'workshop manual'. A Haynes manual is a useful reference, but the OEM one is usually the preference. The issue is of course that OEM manuals are stupidly expensive.

Clymer, but any manual is better than guesswork.

My only caveat is manuals on disc/line. Fuck that. Give me a book that I can open and read while I am beside the bike/car/woman so I can actually work out what is going on.

On the ships I worked on, all standard maintenance jobs were on plasticised sheets in a ring binder. A bloody god send when you spilt the oil on it.

Not sure about manuals but I'd like less shameless blog promotion.

I can relate to what you said about manuals on CD-ROM/DVD-ROM - it's just so much easier to look up something in a book than it is to boot up your computer (especially considering that most computers these days don't have CD drives).
