I'm a big fan of Yamaha - I've owned a few from the FS1E era onward..but this thing to me is truly hideous..

https://mcn-images.bauersecure.com/wp-images/186876/1440x960/2022-yamaha-xsr900-01.jpg

..it looks yuck from almost every angle. The engine is a cluttered eyesore as is
the exhaust. The projector highlight looks too small, the flimsy indicators that come out of the radiato look like
an afterthought and one assumes any pillion would have to be an acrobat or gymnast to get on and hold on, and there's no rear mudguard..

..am I alone in preferring the elegance of the the older machine?

Fucking ugly mate. The previous version is much prettier. Don't know why Yamaha censored their own picture though, between the front tyre and the exhaust pipe there's a blurred line for some reason.

I saw the 2022 XSR700 up close on Sunday and it looks much better. Mainly 'cos they've hardly done anything with it versus the previous model. The new XSR900 is less like its smaller sibling and more like its MT09 cousin.

I actually don't mind the current "Transformers-meets-Cyclops" of the current MT series but the 900 has gone a bit "neither Arthur nor Martha" Neutral

Looks like a faired bike that's been crashed and converted to a naked on the cheap.

In which case I agree, just about. It still appears to be missing a side panel though...

Not the biggest fan of the seat, but overall I quite like that Shocked It could use something over the headlight to cover the gauges and wiring a bit though.

That's why I bought the Spacker variant of the MT09, design wise it's a half way house between The XSR900 (which came
along afterwards anyway or I'd have bought that) and the original MT09. Without exception, if I stop anywhere and stand
with the bike, someone will come up and make a positive comment, I think the mods I have made have been tasteful and
in keeping with the Yamaha's original vision though, my mods include Yamaha heated grips, Renntec grabrail, Yamaha LED
indicators, Carbon fibre Akrapovic can on a decat stainless race exhaust and headers (not road legal apparently although
it passed MOT fine), Black shorty levers with Gold reach adjusters which match the gold forks, Oberon 3" circular bar
end mirrors and blanking plugs for OEM mirror mounts, Genuine CF hugger extender, tail tidy, AP racing rad guard and some
well applied tasteful vinyl graphics on the numberboards. Gave her a clean on Saturday after some 3 years in storage,
looking much better now, very clean for a 2016 bike.

I actually brought up this very bike in this thread (below) and it received mostly negative views on here Laughing

I looked back and didn't land myself in it too badly.. Embarassed seems I was dubious about it's local content but that has been clarified. Did they also change the styling meantime?
