I'm thinking about about another bike after 2 years away, my last was an old blade and had 7 years nc's.... not now because of the 2 year gap.
Why do these insurance fkrs get away this, so they think after 2 years you forget or can't ride and as good as need a test again.
I know I'm not the only one to go through this crap but it really is utter bollox.

Insurance companies are utter cvnts. Simples.

Some other countries rightly apply NCD to the *driver* not the vehicle. Would be nice to have the same thing here, but that would reduce income for them so it'll never happen.

Don't worry, even if you've got 10 years no claims, if you insure a second bike, none of it counts!

Yes it's a pile of wank. Of course, you could think of no claims as a gift that the insurance companies graciously grant us peons for being good consumers.

I've got a frame I keep insured yet SORN, its a piece of shit CBR125 frame and costs absolute pennies to insure, like £80 a year. I just have my no claims ticking on that, its not getting nicked and if it does... its not getting reported Laughing

I also had 2 sets of NCB running before, I never had an issue with it either, had 4 years on 1 and 3 on another. Probably some law or insurance bs that prevents that, but worked fine for me Neutral

I've been riding continuously for 39 years without a break in insurance and without ever claiming or being claimed against. But my maximum allowed no claims is anywhere between 5 and 12 years depending on which company I delight with my custom.

Now, I need something wooden to touch because I have probably just jinxed myself and an aeroplane is about to fall on my garage.

While I understand what you're all saying, there's still no explanation of why they do it, even they can't, don't, won't say they just say "it's the underwriters " aye that explains it Rolling Eyes

I agree it's shit, but it's certainly nothing new. Exactly the same happened to me back in the 1980s. If I was in this situation again I'd have 'done a Paddy' (see above).

Incidentally, I came back to bikes after 30 years of not even riding once. I knew about the NCD situation, but I certainly wouldn't have expected an insurer to honour it after all that time. Would you? If not, what would be considered a reasonable gap to allow?

But all that means is that one company's NCD maxes out at 5 years whereas another keeps increasing it up to 12 years. All you care about is getting the maximum available NCD from what ever company you use, and that shouldn't be a problem providing you maintain your paper trail.
