Looking to buy a new jacket and trousers (too fat for my old stuff and trousers have a rip) but unsure on what is good quality nowadays in terms of brands. Is it all much of a muchness?

In terms of price I'm not after bargain basement but I don't want to spend Rukka money either, looking around £500 give or take a bit. Like a relatively simple look (Alpinestars are out purely due to massive logos on everything), not into the adventure long jacket styling either. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. Thumbs Up

Best I've used is Weise (not too dear) and BMW (brace yourself)

Both are great with BMW being the best I've ever used. (secondhand can throw up a few bargains)

Weise is the most waterproof well built for decent money.

I'm a fan of IXS here. Reasonably priced, suit still keeps me warm and dry after 5 years, and I successfully retained all my flesh when the previous set went down the road...

In my defence it's because I have stopped cycling as much and started going to the gym more, so still a healthy weight. Laughing

Thanks for the advice so far. Looking at online stores have also seen a company called Buse who have good reviews within my price range. Anyone any experience of these?

I wear a full Dane goretex textile suit. Jacket, trousers and gloves. I think I paid around 300 for the jacket, 200 for the trousers and 85 for the gloves.

They were a replacement for my Rukka trousers which leaked after 6 months and they would not replace them as according to their rep "Being an instructor is not classed as fair usage" SO they would not cover the warrantee.

4 years later these Dane textiles have not let a drop of water in.

Why did you tell them that?? And even if you did, why not subsequently deny it and say, actually no - I misremembered. I only used this gear for social rides. Honestly, at the price of their gear I would expect considerably better treatment than that. Instructor not classed as fair usage? Fvck me. What next? A Rukka restriction on annual mileage?? Because that's what this amounts to. I can scarcely believe their temerity. For so many reasons - one of which is that numerous hobbyist riders who do a lot of touring will rack up more miles, more weather and more seat-hours than some instructors.

My textiles are from Richa:

Phantom II Jacket (£175),
Colorado Trousers (£160).

I am considering upgrading to the Cyclone Goretex jacket sometime next year (£500).

I got in touch with Richa in Belgium for some after sale service and they were excellent.

So for the sake of a pair of trousers, every student that goes through that school will now be old "Don't get any Rukka kit - it's shit". Makes perfect business sense.

Yeah - that kind of thing. Not to mention here on line, and the word of mouth that this thread'll create.

I recently stumbled across Motolegends store near Guildford and can honestly say it was the best retail experience i've ever had. Their YouTube videos are incredibly helpful as well!

Without doubt, they are now the only bike apparel company i'm going to buy from.

Warning... they don't do cheap, but they do do awesome. Wink
