Currently away in the motorhome with the little Honda on the back. Last couple of days I noticed when you turn the key sometimes there is nothing. Normally you get the lights on the speedo come on and the fuel pump primes, hit the button and away she goes. Now, sometimes you turn the ignition and nothing until you either turn it off and on again or wiggle the key a bit then it comes to life.

Im no expert but it sounds like dodgy connection to me. Any idea where I should start looking or is it a job for a garage / dealer? Bike is fine otherwise.

If wiggling the key solves it you need a new ignition switch.

Indeed. Meanwhile familiarise yourself with the hot-wire process.

Thanks. Seemed alright this morning but you can guarantee it will go when I am miles away from the motorhome in the pissing rain. Laughing

We are in Dumfries and Galloway at the moment. I think there will be a couple of dealers / service places in Dumfries I might give them a call in the morning. I reckon we will be home in a couple of weeks time or so though so might just have to wing it.

Hotwiring might be a good idea if it was a serious suggestion. Very Happy

I suppose the Vision could be classed as a bit "Ghey" and my Beverly 350 even has a girls name. Its a fair cop. Laughing Ducky.

Its not like there's a danger of anyone wanting to steal it.

Tis true that nobody will want to nick "The Pig". Yes it has a name. It might be little, undesirable and a bit "Ghey" but its been everywhere from St Tropez to Slovenia and over some of the highest passes in Europe. To be fair you could get off and push going up some of them.

Few vids here

Anyway back on topic, what seems to be happening is you turn the key to what should be the "on"position but rather than wiggle it you just turn it back slightly and it all lights up and is ready to go and once started it stays running. Just a question of how long it will stay like that.

Mind you it would help if you gave a few details like
age mileage etc
That little black thing above had clocked up 42,00 miles since 2018 and a bit crusty but the motor was sweet as a nut.
Hard Deliveroo miles by a guy who couldn't find the spark plug if you held a gun to his head, but luckily it was serviced and fixed by me and others.
The ignition switch worked just fine despite theft attempts where I had to resolder the leads.
When it was given to me I stripped it down, replaced plastics and removed the engine to fix an exhaust stud and while I was at it cleaned/painted the motor and went over it with a fine toothed comb.
I found they're not well protected against water ingress and
checked/cleaned every electrical connector.
All the problems he reported with "that crappy bike"went away after that

The battery area above the headlamp where the ignition switch is gets the weather in too
so I'd be in there checking before spending

Its a 2012 model and its got just over 20k on the clock, nearly all of which Ive done since I got it in 2015.

I had trouble with it cutting out for about 18 months when cold and there was a long running thread on here but my neighbour eventually stripped it all down earlier this year, cleaned up the electrics and fixed it without ever knowing really what it was.

So. Assuming I cant get an ignition switch easily while away if its just two wires just exactly how easy would it be to hotwire it and could it be done from the roadside?

Personally I force the throttle up my arse before I leave my bike parked up. I have trhe CCTV sent to me by the police to prove it.

FFS! Can one of you just explain in simple terms that a complete mechanically challenged Fuckwit like me can understand what I need to do if the flaming thing packs up when Im twenty miles from the van? Is it just a case of ripping the front cover off and joining the two ignition wires together like in the movies? Then what happens?

Anyway it might not matter. Im almost empty and the two garages near here are both out of fuel. Laughing
