Been offered a job . HGV driver by my next door neighbor , he's a small haulage firm with 4 units , soon to be 5 .

He's offered me a job but the company was dissolved in January and it just seems abit dodgy to me .

Any advice ? Can he still be trading and paying his employees tax and ni etc ? I dont know how it all works .

I might also add 2 of his new units where purchased after it got dissolved. Thanks

Sole traders can have employees and don't have to be registered with companies house. It's only Ltd, PLC or LLP companies that have to be registered.

He may have had a Ltd company which he has disolved because he decided sole trader is less hassle.

I'd ask who the employer is and under what terms, i.e. is it him as a sole trader, are you to be self-employed and invoice him or PAYE etc...

If his Ltd Co. has been dissolved, it won't be that. Have a look on Companies house to see if he is a Director of any other Ltd Cos, as people often are for all sorts of reasons.

Do you smell a rat? Yes! Then it’s a rat.
I’d suggest agree to be paid weekly until you know you can trust them.
Then if things do start going pear-shaped you won’t lose to much money.

Just an idea Eh?
