1980 CB250R Exhaust Replacement

Hi,
I have a 1980 CB250 with a rusted out muffler and I am looking at options to replace it. I have played around and done a bit of a cafe racer job on it so I do not need original parts.

The pipes are OK so I can get away with cutting off the mufflers are replacing them but the mufflers have a kink built into them to get around gear and foot break leavers then outside the wheel.

Apparently I can still get originals from Honda but would like to avoid handing over the best part of $1000 Australian.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

You’ve made it into a ‘cafe racer’ .

I’ll guess that now aftermarket replacements (standard/original trim) won’t fit?.

It might be easier if you kept the bike as near original as possible , then aftermarket parts might be available/fit.

Or! As you’ve chopped and hacked at a great little bike, why not go the whole way and cut it up and put the bits in the scrap metal bin

Stating the obvious here but I am looking to replace the original exhaust soooo, OEM and aftermarket will fit fine.

Appreciate your assumptions on what I did to the bike. Yes it is a great little bike which is why I want it back on the road.

"Café Racer" has been a pejorative for a good long while now #JustSayin'

As to the exhaust there are plenty of little engineering companies out there that will mandrel bend exhaust sections. I got a custom link pipe made for my Rebel and it's a case of specifying "I'll have that pipe with this angle" specifying inside and outside diameters and whether you want slot cut ends. Doesn't cost much if it's simple.

Assuming this is a CB250RS.

Motad used to do a 2-1, but motad folded a few years ago. Only other place I've come across in the last decade is classicbikeshop.co.uk

I have their downpipes and silencers on my bikes. Both are pretty good quality, although the downpipes are better than the silencers. Stock can be intermittent, I had to wait about 18 months for the silencers to be in stock.

Alternatively, find a local custom exhaust fabricator and get some stainless downpipes made. They are not a complex shape.

Here's a couple of pics of a similar sort of engine with a Quadzilla quadbike manifold cut down and a bit of flexipipe attached going into a single VW Beetle tail pipe. Works great, weighs little, cheap, easy to make and easy to fix.
