A QOTSA track I like that just came up in the mix:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnLwHOVXkWE
Chorus is a bit quirky, but then I guess that pretty much sums them up. Second time I heard it, it made more sense. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Here's a band, a favourite of mine, that I never thought of as grunge (still don't), but has that quieter verses/louder chorus thing (I'm sure that's not exclusive to grunge, even before grunge was a thing, but never mind) mentioned elsewhere. This feels to me like it fits in the mix.

Their more recent album Farm is well worth a listen. I love Bug a lot, but Farm is ace. The guitar sound is arguably their best yet, and the drums sound great too. I don't think there's a bad song on it. ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

Sort of pop-punk feel.

Energy!
Loved the heaviest guitar sound they used here, clipped, compressed. Lap steel (?) was a surprise!
Why I never got into this band in their day I'll never know. Must have just been preoccupied with other stuff.
Seems you can't go far wrong with anything featuring Chris Cornell. His vocals very a much a feature of this track. Liked the bass too.
Never know what to expect when you're fresh to their songs, always changing, keeping the interest. Excellent.
Expected to like it by now, and wasn't disappointed. Don't think I've yet heard anything from them I don't. Time to reduce the rice and beans diet for a bit and get some of their music added to my collection.
Yep, that'll do it. Think I'll have to look at more by them.
I found the vocals a bit nondescript (but then I've just been spoiled by that Cornell chap!). Certainly didn't dislike this, but didn't really stand out from the crowd for me.
Funny one this. I thought not particularly outstanding, steady, solid. But then I ended up checking out about 3 more tracks from the album, lol. I prefer "Monster" and "Wargasm" to this track, but all pretty much along the same lines. They've definitely got a sound here, and an album of theirs would probably sit nicely in the mix.
Didn't really do it for me. I wasn't keen on the vocal style, and I think maybe the production let it down a little bit?
Bit better than the last one I thought, but still lacking something. I felt the second half could have done with something to lift it a bit.
Didn't stand out for me. I did go and check a couple of other tunes by them, but didn't find anything with more pace, which I'd hoped to.
Another vocalist I'm not keen on. Like the band, and did check out another track by them (Mountain Song) which confirmed this for me too. And another one I think would benefit from better production. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Hit on this one though, which I quite like:

Again not a fast tune - I guess that's not their thing - but like this anyway.

So now we're talking! Couldn't turn these up enough
In fact, checked a few tracks from this album (Core) out, and think it's an album I want in the mix. It has energy! ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Core, Purple and No.4 are the good STP albums, especially Core. |

Like a poor man's Audioslave IMO. 127 up votes and 19 down votes just about sums it up. There's something not quite right about any pop punk song which lasts 5.22 minutes. |
They're definitely not very well known, and I class them more as hard rock than grunge, and certainly not punk, although the Water For Thirsty Dogs album is probably a bit closer to the grunge sound, if not your hallowed format. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I did go back to Pixies a bit last night. Listened to the studio version of Gouge Away, and liked it better than that live version, and then some more tracks from that album. The band are ok, but the vocal style puts me off sometimes. Most of the tracks seemed to kick off all pretty much in the same way with the bass line, so I could have a couple of tracks in the mix, but not too many. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

P.S. I noticed that I was listening to remastered versions. I think there's a few grunge bands that could benefit from this. I sometimes think that of some of the music I've been more into before now, although some classics are best left alone, and I'd guess some grunge fans probably feel that way about the music they love. But if something is new to you, I think it's good to hear more modern production sometimes. The bass response is often much better and yet still retaining a clarity with other instruments. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Been looking at them in the "what are you listening to" thread today - don't think they really fit a grunge thread, but they're on my radar now. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I clicked that link having not heard that song since this thread was last going... It brought back an intense memory of being at University listening to that in my room above the 2nd hand shop. I had an NS125R at the time, and Road Rash 3D was a game I played to death. It was an old game by the time I played it but the guy who lived in the room next door pirated it for me... Good times!
I'm going to have to get that on my phone and play it very loudly in the car over the summer I think! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F
